3 strike rule is fair. That VT looked pretty stock only mods were stockies and a red grille! Pretty sure I had seen that on the highway lol.

its a bit of a mixed message.
will the car be crushed after the 3rd strike, or is it being crushed only because it doesn't have ABS or airbags?

what other offense can carry such a big fine? What if your car is worth 80g and you get caught breaking traction 3 times.. = 80g fine.

Guy should buy the VT off the scrap yard and drive it to chapel st. Then pull an epic skid and walk away. :P

When I'm tired of the ED I wanna get it crushed into a cube then put a sheet of glass on top for a coffee table.

No surprises it's a Commo. Every time there's something in the media about dumb shit I expect to see one, and I usually do. Pretty hard not to stereotype when it's in your face every week.

3 strikes is fair IMO. Some people just don't learn.

'If we permanently seize a vehicle that is not of a high safety standard, in that it does not have features such as ABS and airbags, I cannot, in good conscience, send that vehicle back into the community,'' the deputy commissioner said.

Interesting comment. So the age of the car will have an impact as to whether they get crushed or not! If your car pre-dates ABS and airbags, it's more likely to get crushed?

3 Strikes is pretty fair really... especially i dont know if they do but do they expire after some time like demerits? like say 1 strike disapears after 3 years or something?

Canberra was shit though i hope we dont get their laws over here, first strike instant 3 months... and its easy for anyone to slip up once.. wrong place wrong time etc etc. Then supposedly the 2nd strike is confiscation. Thats what the cops told us anyway when the calais got impounded at the nats... pretty rough really.

max, supposedly they are talking about instant week for first strike here, is in herald sun today, article says going before parliament soon (where it will pass, like every other bullshit law they've breezed through in this police state)
2nd offence will be a month "immobilised" which says to me that you pay a fine equal to the cost of 1 angle grinder and cutting disc.

it's a load of shit, it's not a fair punishment at all.
it punishes those with gainful employment more then those without, and it punishes those further from public transport more.
not to mention value of vehicle as already mentioned.
they'll fucking hand down a suspended sentence if you stomp a **** out, but do a burnout in his drive way and you lose your license and your car.

Are you for real?
Wouldn't that totally make the exersize pointless?

The plan is to trip and sell off all the good bits with none of the moey going to the owner (should the vehicle have finance, then they get the money), the profits of sale going to victims of crime.

3 strikes or one major then crush. 3 stricks is fine but one major would be the discression of the lawman. Meaning a burnout in a public place = danger to civilians = crush.

FYI - Holdens make up 46% of the cars impounded, followed by 16.7% Ford and 7.8% Nissan.
Moral of this is, hoon in Toyotas! ;) j/k

Good point.

It's about as fair as the dumb bitch that killed my friend head-on (in her parents' 4WD, coz she'd smashed her car) on a straight, flat, empty road getting away with it.

Yet OED got his car impounded for something he didn't do.

The law itself favours those with a higher socio-economic status, before any offence even enters the equation. They have already stated that they are only crushing cars that are unsafely modified (whatever that means), or don't have safety features such as airbags and ABS.

More safety features = newer car = more valuable.

They are on the right track with endorsing safety features, but they can only go so far. The real answer is to prevent the accidents occurring in the first place thru proper driver training. Countries like Finland have got it right.

And at what point do you say, "OK, nuff nuffs are always going to find ways of killing themselves in a car, we cant save everyone..."?

I like this law, It's got to be the most effective anti-hoon punishment there is. Granted I don't think they should crush new cars, But just auction them. I'm all for crushing older cars and heavily modified cars. If people get caught and lose their car tough shit you know the law whinge somewhere else. Although its easy to say here in Brisbane there is somewhere to go and do this legally I feel sorry for people down south.

the law is fair enough, but what outlines being a hoon act is not.
granted there is still a few nice cops out there as i've dealt with a few, but there is certainly those who aren't, and even if they are a nice cop, if they are told x+y=hooning, there is a shitload of cops who wont know any better and think they are doing their job feeling good power tripping keeping bob smith from cranbourne off the road for doing a single pegger when chucking a U turn.

unless there is a specific guideline that is published, its all upto the cop on the day and anything the driver says is his (or her) word against a cop.
whos the judge going to believe?

I stand corrected.

1. an offence against the Criminal Code, section 328A (Dangerous Driving) committed on a road or in a public place; or
2. an offence against the Road Use Management Act, section 83; or
3. an offence against the Road Use Management Act, section 85; (Racing or Speed Trials) or
4. an offence against the Road Use Management Act involving wilfully starting a vehicle, or driving a vehicle, in a way that makes unnecessary noise or smoke.

My guess is there will be alot of $100 bangers with no reg and welded diffs being crushed. People who skid that much will ALWAYS do it in whatever car they can find.

Also, give us more places to run amuck - that arent a million km's away!!!!!!!!

Less shoot-up shops for smackies, more big ashphalted squares for skids!

Less shoot-up shops for smackies, more big ashphalted squares for skids!

Funny that. Pretty sure I could do skids if I lived on a farm, but it'd still be illegal to shoot up at the same place.

Same view as TUFED - yay Government for promoting cars that may save you when you're already having an accident, as opposed to teaching people not to crash in the first place.

i can't believe the amount of people on here saying its a good idea!!!

you can get done for anything! the cop doesn't need any proof to say you did something wrong, so if they decide you were 'hooning' then you're stuffed.
A mate of mine has been done twice in his SS, once in the wet got a tiny bit sideways and got caught, the next time he acidentally spun the wheels in the wet which is very easy to do... so one more time and see ya later car.
i could understand it if hooning was doing nuts in peak hour traffic or out the front of a school, but its not.
