iirc xr's have 255km/h speed limiter.
but they have a better tailshaft. so its not very safe to go faster then 180 in a normal falcon.

EF's onwards had the limiter in the ECU. so Most still have the limiters. EB/ED had them as a seperete box under the centre console. Most seem to be removed or unplugged. Not sure about EA's though

umm xr's had limiter at 255?
i find that very hard to beleive.
hell i know my ef xr8 hits limiter around 180 (untill i had it raised to 210)

and my ed as well hit at 180 (unless being run on gas)
and my ef fairmont hits at 180 (unless on gas)

so basically far as i can tell they all had a limiter at 180

if you want it removed. get a j3 chip and move it up

A falcon is speed limited because they run a single piece tailshaft of which doesn't like being spun much quicker than fords speed limiter allows. I can tell you this my cars tailshaft exploded on a dyno.

Leave it unless your stupid. Or running really low diff gears <3.23

Manual XR's have no limiter, All Auto sedans are limited to 180 factory, LWB is 170. EB + got limiters. all built into the ECU!

My old EB2 GLi Auto ECU went way pass 200. but now with the AU1 Auto ecu wont go past 180.
My EB2 SXR6 Auto goes pass 200 aswell, but when I took the console out, the Ford factory "speed limiter control unit" was disconnected.

The speedo will read 190 the analogue speedo is always fast. The EEC is only seeing 180.

Ummm, that's the cruise control module, not speed limiter!

As has been said - Google image search 'exploded tailshaft' for more info on why they're there.

Right on the money. To add to that, I believe it's a fuel cut, as dual fuel cars will go past that limiter only when on LPG.

as far as i knew ef onward had 180 limit and xr 210... also have heard a whisper that a wire at the 'box can be cut to remove the speed limiter but i imagine it would be to the speedo gear which would render the speedo in the dash useless

Nope, XR's (at least manual) weren't limited to 210. 4900rpm in 5th says otherwise ;)

Oh, wait, if my sig comes up again, I think that particular pic was 4500rpm@215 anyways.
