I've noticed there is a fair few members who are fairly handy with a camera on here so i want to ask some advice.
Can anyone with some experience recommend something good for around $1000 or point me in a direction of a decent site or magazine with some reviews?
Thanks people

For a first DSLR I would be looking at second hand, something like a Nikon D90 or a Canon 450D.
I rather Nikon personally but each have there pro's and cons.
The thing is once you buy one brand it is a pain in the ass and a massive hit in the bank account to change over, cos all of your len's, flashes, etc are not compatable.

DP review is great to have a look through the whats what, and also have a look at Australian Photography forums.

I have a Canon 450d, i reckon you could get one with a single lens for $1000ish?
I got the 'twin lens kit' and a whole heap of other stuff and came to about $1500.

I would suggest buy the best camera you can afford with a real basic lens just to get you started and learn, then add to it as you go.

Thanks for the input guys.
nothin suss, I had a look at the samples of that camera and they look... fucking sick lol. I'm going to have to have a look around for some prices.
I've been looking at a micro four thirds camera also. Reviews say there almost as good there just not as large and ugly as the DSLR. Anyone had any experience with these?

The 450d is a nice lightweight and a good sized beginner SLR camera... Bonus is you can bolt all sorts of crazy stuff onto it and get some pro results as its got most of the features the better SLR's have.

I bought a 400D back when the 450's first came out as they were a bit more expensive, really didnt have alot that was better and the 400's actually had a higher something, I forget now haha.

But now, I'd go a 450 everytime as I imagine there isnt much in the price. Value wise, I dont reckon you can beat a 450D.

Its really the lens that makes a camera, I only have a 18-55 and I've still been able to take some good shots but always wished I had a better... But of course, you'll pay for it.

Go the Nikon D90 at least you can take HD video with it as well.

But as said above 450D is a good option, but has less features than the D90 for similar money.

If you can find one a Fuji S5 Pro is one of the best cameras and I have used and the color depth is better than any other DX format DSLR on the market.
