A SERIAL hoon has pleaded to be spared jail, on the day Victoria recorded its 200th road death for the year.
Jamie Alex Tabone's lawyer argued he had lost the ability to make decisions four years ago, after suffering a head injury - when he smashed his car into a tree.
A magistrate heard yesterday that Tabone, 23, of Berwick, drove his high-performance car at speeds of more than 230km/h, at night with his headlights off, while fleeing police last December.
One night two weeks later, he was at it again, fleeing police at 140km/h. This time he crashed, and ran and hid among trees.
Ringwood Magistrates' Court heard yesterday that at the time, Tabone had already lost his licence for a litany of driving offences, including two other police pursuits.
In 2008, he was disqualified from driving for three years after pleading guilty to four counts of driving while disqualified and one of reckless conduct endangering life.
Yesterday he pleaded guilty to reckless conduct endangering life, three charges of driving while disqualified, two of evading police, and one each of drink-driving and dangerous driving.
The charges related to police pursuits on the Melba Highway, in the Yarra Valley, last December and in Warragul on January 3, and a third occasion when he was pulled over for driving while disqualified in Ferntree Gully on April 21.
Tabone boasts about his XR8 Ford Falcon on MySpace. Under a picture of it, he calls it a "weapon" and "t bones pride an joy".
Defence lawyer Richard Davis told the court he was "gobsmacked and bewildered" when initially told of his client's driving charges.
"It just defies logic. He's a peril on the roads - we're talking high speeds," he said.
Mr Davis said the acquired brain injury his client suffered in 2006 had been untreated, and he needed to take a drug normally used for epilepsy to normalise his behaviour.
"He knows what's right and wrong, but it's cognitive processes in this case," he said.
He called on magistrate Tony Parsons to spare his client jail, and instead impose an intensive corrections order that would see Tabone do unpaid community work.
Prosecutor Sen-Constable Louise Heal said Tabone's driving was extremely immature and irresponsible.
The case was adjourned to next Thursday for a pre-sentence assessment.
Just saw this on ten news, anyone else see it? They got footage of the police chasing him, he drives a white ED XR8 with the plates similar to JTWPN, wonder if he's on the forums lol

i think that if you cope 5 months jail for driving whilst suspended to work (alright 8 times) but still, then a sentence would be mandatory for this. However an ICO is considered jail in the community as they own ur arse 4 days a week sort of. And if one breaches their ICO its straight off to jail to serve the remander of whats owing and plus answer a charge of breach ICO. So i think everyone deserves a chance and if it is breached go serve it out. The old saying is so true "don't do the crime, if you can't do the time"

So your saying that you have never quickly turned off or got the **** out there when the cops are behind you. I don't believe it truth is most of us have probably done the similar things, admittedly not as often as this bloke but HE got caught. But hey i'll admit i've nailed when i've seen them turn round behind me. I also have done over 200km/h on a public road. but not where there was any traffic.

No i didn't say that. I said most of us have done what he has done. Time and place and he obviously cannot grasp that concept. I agree he is an idiot for doing it. He crashes his car once or twice because an earlier accident was mentioned as well so he is a danger. What i was saying just to make sure it sinks in is.... that we have all driven outside the laws of the road, I wonder i'm sure i read you were fitting a turbo to an au, well are you getting an engineers certifcate for that modification? Tuning it to meet emission control? And will you always drive in a safe manner with out wheelspin or speeding? If yes then your fine to hang it on him otherwise it could be a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

I'm sure anything any of us do on the roads is fairly minor compared to what this guy has done.

Umm Ive never done 230km's except for at heathcote. Ive never tried to escape from cops and Ive never cut mad hoops on the street while unlicensed. And I defintely wouldnt call an ED XR8 a weapon.
You can back stupid behaviour all you like but trying to justify this wanker's actions just isnt gonna work.

Just wanted to point out that some of us have done burnouts and drove fast just i would hope not every day. Clearly this guy is an attention seeking moron.

un lic 8 times and jo prison is insane, its mandatory kail for second offence
i recently went to court for my 4th offence, spend a few grand on a decent lawyer and still lost my lic for a while and recieved a suspended sentence, now i catch the bus to work
8 times just shows that he wont learn till ge gets locked up

that was me that got done 8 times. i did get a suspended sentence first. then got caught driving again. I didn't red light myself by doing burnouts everywhere tho. The reason i lost it was demerit points and the final point loss was for no rego plates on a car. (they got knocked). you see i have a copper who enjoys harrassing me all because i knew who did all the burnouts on nye 02 (yes 8 yrs ago) but i'm no dog that tells tales. If i didnt drive to work i'd have lost my job and then been homeless, dependent on welfare and basically dammed if i did, dammed if i didn't. Not a pleasant situation to be in. 38 points all up for drive breach of major defect from one officer who as soon as it was cleared would be parked out the front putting another canery on it. Well he was smart the paperwork was always in whoever sidekick he had brought along name so i couldnt prove harrassment. And fordbaby your right he will most probably get his ICO but i reckon the wanker will breach it within the first month and then try and run from a warrant untill he gets pulled over and bail is refused. so i see plenty of jail time coming up for him

you've met me before josh so you know what i'm like so fair enough. your entitled to your opinion but i never said as extreme but along the same lines. and hasn you know i have being involved in enough illegal shit that i can't criticize him now can i. Just because i didn't get caught realistically doesn't make me any better really does it. now do you see where i'm coming from. didnt really wanna have to say it like that on a forum but...well who cares its the past

they say ED xr8 yet its a BA xr8 showing on his myspace?
and unless you have had some serious work done id like to see an ED XR8 wheezer get to 230 in the first place.
guy is a cock, and deservedly caught, there is the case of doing a stupid act and just choosing right place/right time, clearly he doesn't.

I disagree. In manual form, it would do it fairly close to stock I'd say. I know the Sprints were quoted as topping out at 228km/h, but I'm sure that's horseshit.
