picking up a turbo thiss weekend.........

so im pikcing up a turbo this weekend i was just wondering if it would really be worth it the price is $1500 with an el xr6 head...
heres what the despcription wrote:

custom turbo manifold made out of steam pipe made by aes, M12 Garrett T70 turbo it was rebuilt and has not been used, compressor housing is A/R 7.0 and turbo housing is A/R 1.15 also comes with a external turbosmart pro-gate 45 and is plumbed into the dump pipe, the dump pipe and the wastegate are held in with v band clamps and also comes included is the oil supply braided line plus fittings to screw into the block to get your oil supply. with a hybrid intercooler


how do i check to make sure the turbo is in good condition?

Check for shaft play in the turbo.

just by shaking it around and making sure it doesnt hit the housing? also what stage would that turbo be around a stage 2?

did u get that off ebay?
that turbo is pretty big man what power do u want?
nah grab the impeller with ur fingers through the front housing and check movement up and down and forwards and backwards.

yeah the one off ebay, what rwkw you recon? its going on el xr6 engine with 2 1/2 exhaust and high flow cat and a upgrade fuel system and sct so whatever i get ill be happy with ive still got 3 years left on my ps so im not going all out for a 1/4 mile car just a boosted daily on budget

if its the same one im thinking then it had a garrett tag and stuff.
couldnt see what it said tho as the pic was crap could just see garrett.

seems like decent deal if its genuine garrett... might be a bit large depending on what you're after though...

not bad dude, manifold looks a bit rough but not terrible, 1.15rear is pretty large, mite find its a bit laggier than you expect but will make good power for sure. you may have done alright by the looks :good:

yeah the manifold is pretty ratty looking the welds arnt the best.. ive been grinding them back down to clean them up as good as possible, starting to look a bit neater.. just need to figure a good coating to put over it when its all done

VHT flameproof works well, its ceramic based paint... alledgedly ;)

I tried useing it on my turbo manifold mate, No deal started peeling as soon as the car got hot.

looks like a pretty good pick up mate. are you going to use the heat shield thats in the ebay pics? if so, just paint it and leave it. u will never see it under the heat shield anyway.
