Lol yeah I was hoping that it'd take a bit more than that for a 4L to beat it

4L is irrelevant, we are talking real motors now.
i reckons it will still be better bang for buck then LS3 for sub 5k/400kw
until LS9.

FPV are still trying to put that power down thru a 245 tyre... dickheads! I have trouble launching a near stock 4L with that lol

So your comparing a factory charged V8 to an LS3 which is factory N/A... that sounds like apples for apples to me. Im sure a factory charged LS3 would have alot more power then 335FWKW

i don't see why you'd consider it an unfair comparison?
people have been comparing Turbo 6's against V8's for years, this is no different.
especially given the displacement difference.
estimating boost pressure of 4psi (4/14) 28% more air.
on a 5L motor that equates to the equivilant to a 6.4litre motor.
ignoring losses and all the other crap that goes with it.
regardless of if its supercharged or N/A, its a factory performance motor, they're in direct competition with each other, so thats where comparisons should be made.

i'm talking bang for buck, why shouldn't i compare them??
would you have bought an XR8 over an XR6T?
no, because you compare them and say "well thats a shit idea isn't it".
yeah LS9, email HSV and tell them to put one in a GTS.

im sorry, but 335kw from a charged 8?
fucking lol
i know the LS engines have more capacity, but its not like the 5.7l is that much larger yet it has similar numbers...
i know its about the power curve and what not, but as said above, kinda gotta worry when a turbo 4l 6 from the factory will have similar performance also
ford V8 still majorly FTL!
also that power graph looks super realistic...

lol just read this
"Mr Mears described the new FPV GT as the “finest vehicle we’ve ever produced, with the finest engine.” He was adamant that unlike their main competitor, FPV was “not sourcing a complete package from somewhere else.”
so getting an engine from a mustang isn't from somewhere else?
and
"The current FPV GT and FPV F6 suffer from a lack of grip from takeoff. So it will be interesting to see how the new engine with more torque down low will cope with the 245mm wide tyres. HSV make do with 275mm tyres and less torque, so the jury will be out until we get a chance to test the car at its October launch."
so that means, our engine feels more powerful because we are providing a smaller tyre to ensure less grip lol

you forget that in AU carmakers are scared of the media attention they get when things get too powerful.
the numbers may be a bit meh, but all they're doing is looking after their future.
if ford had of released a 380kw GT, you can garentee Holden would do something to one up them.

they've got a 5L of capacity going up against 6.2L.
their 5L makes 300kw N/A straight out of a mustang.
they either stretch it to the power they have in mind N/A and not be able to go much further (and possibly end up with a **** of a motor) or they spend the money and time engineering it as a supercharged motor from the get go, which not only gets them their power target easily and without stress, but it leaves room for power upgrades at model updates, extending the motors life cycle.

Ford needs to scrap all the fancy shit and just give the market what they have always wanted- a simple, large capacity V8 that sounds good and has enough stick to keep the one-eyed pride going.
Also I strongly suspect that you will need to get a GT to get the charged motor. I'm sure the XR8 will be NA and be just as forgettable as any other XR8 made previously...

if there is an XR8.
but even if thats the case, its a good thing.
GT vs XR8 in terms of performance was a bit of a
when choosing your next car, if going FPV meant getting a supercharger, it'd make the decision all the much easier.

Apparently the Aussie engineered version of this is called the 'Miami'.
Steady wrote:...but it leaves room for power upgrades at model updates, extending the motors life cycle.
I think people forget this. 335kW is the least power this engine will ever produce out of the factory. Wouldn't surprise me if it gets to 373kW/500hp by the end of its life cycle.

I look at that torque graph and it tills me that there is electronic torque limiting happening 100% of the time.
Makes me wonder what gearbox there are putting behind it?

Id rather them quote lower power figures, then people will get suprised when it pulls bigger rwkw than it should

Look up 2011 Mustang V the Camaro and Corvette with the SS and HSV motors.
In NA and boosted form it wins which is good

Good point Pete. The current Boss is rated lower than the LS3 but doesn't suffer from heat soak on the dyno and pulls bigger numbers.

The manual gearbox is a Tremac TR6060 with new bell-housing to suit a new clutch system. Revised second gear synchros have been implemented to reduce shifting effort. A new ZF Sachs twin plate clutch has also been introduced to handle the extra torque. The clutch is identical to the one seen in the Corvette ZR-1 and Mustang GT500.

im picking they have understated the power as per F6, and i wouldn't be surprised if they have deliberately kept the small tyres on it to make the tyres the weak link, rather than the driveline.

I think this new engine is going to suprise a few people, especially when it comes to the F6, while a great car, ford was always critisized for not making thier V8 as good as their turbo6, since the arrival of the BA. And I think they are building up to place the GT back on top of the aussie muscle car scene.
Remember when the BA came out, they released the XR6T before the V8, trying to build its, hype/performance, because on paper, it looked like the better performer then the XR6T...Time for the ford V8's to shine!!!

the engine doen't look the best imo.. the rest should be good as! i'll have a GS thanks

lol
Can't wait to see the 1/4 mile times for these... i don't rekon it'll be as quick as an F6 but a high 12 would be nice.
Finally a decent V8 from Ford!

It's all numbers to everyone isn't it! Drivability / Euro 3 or Euro 4 emissions compliant mean anything?
I'm sure it would be a great car to drive - no turbo lag

As for compos with XR6T and Boss motors - the XR6T had a factory power output of 240 / 270 / 310 fwkw with huge amounts of potential as everyone knows...I'm sure upping the boost on a blower would leave the modest 335FWKW in its tracks too *shrugs*
Horses for courses as per usual

lol, considering probably about 0.000005 percent of boosted members will seriously be in the market for a miami powered fg i doubt anyone would give a rats about emissions...

This is true

Plenty of us mexicans who enjoy the fruits of the words 'performance' and 'legal' though

In saying that, I'm sure some AFF nutter with uber cash will end up with one with all the name brand aftermarket $hit to make crazy powah

Agreed... same with everything. Technology etc. Give it a few years and a terrabyte HD will be considered minimal for eg. I can understand Ford not jumping the gun and putting out some crazy figures yet, it doesnt leave room for upgrades. Look at the F6s, still got so much potential.

I never said mine was legal Big W

- I am implying that Vic laws are close to being the most harsh in Australia and that many of us would rest-easier knowing we could drive a realtively quick car legally

Yes, the temptaion of a late-ish model M3 has been an appealing pipe dream
