IMPORTANT! LOKKA update

Postby Dansedgli » November 30th, 2007, 1:50 pm

Hi guys,

Tom from 4wd systems has emailed me.

Apparently they have started to make a new spring set for the lokka's we have just received.

There is no difference in how well the lokka locks. They only affect how it unlocks and the noise. The new springs are quieter and unlock a "tad" better.

The new springs are better than what we have but they arent the finalised version. A final version will be released early 2008.

If you want a set of these new springs in the meantime put your name in this thread.

This is what Tom had to say:

Hi Dan,
The new springs work just fine, it does not effect the lock, only the
un-lock.

Anyone who has not fitted already should fit the new springs, but some
guys may want to wait until the trials are done and we settle on a set
design. The current 'new springs' are no problem to use and are quieter
than the ones in the kits you have. Will be a 'tad' smoother as well.

It is normal that they get quieter with use, but they wont be as quiet
as with new springs or the new design yet to be finalized.

We will get your E-Club guy Darren back to refit the springs when they
are available.

Just let me know how many sets of current new springs are required
now/soon. We will send everyone new springs when the ultimate new design
is reached (early 2008) and those who want to fit can, those who don't
can keep in their toolbox.

regards
tom

Is there a cost involved Dan?
I may as well wait till they've finalised the new spring design, I doubt mine will be in soon.

this will be interesting to see the new springs...

i ordered new pins and springs for my lokka last week. I got them on Monday. The new springs are about 4 coils longer than my old ones, and they dont fit. :( I gotta get it sorted before next Thursday.

The original springs I had are 2 small springs, one inside the other. The new ones are just single ocoil, but quite thick and hard to press together.

I'll have the new springs fitted when the final design is sorted early next year as mine's already in the diff and i think i'll wait to drive it first before bothering to fit the new springs.

I'll throw my name in. Even though it should get quieter with use, anything to dull the noise would be great. I'm getting some wtf looks in car parks.

The noise doesn't bother me, the blower would still make too much for anyone to hear the lokka.

donno - how do you like it? I freaking love mine, but I'm more willing to accept trade-offs than some people. Would you say the benifits > the downsides now that you have one?

One night at aspley I had a pair of horrible ugly moles swearing black and blue that my diff was fuct, and that I should get a new one, and nothing I could say would convince them otherwise...even though I told them I assembled it myself, filled with parts that would MAKE it make that noise, they still said that I buggered it and that I should take it to a 'real mechanic'. I would have loved to do a big twin-spinner right on their skanky faces!

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

4WD Systems had my EL for two days this week, they fitted the lokka and weren't happy with the amount of ratcheting noise when its unlocked, so they pulled it out again and tried another set of springs. I'll be sending it back in about a month to have the new springs fitted, as Tom mentioned to Dan in the email. Hopefully they are quieter, as I'm getting some weird looks when I corner now LOL

Must say though, Tom has gone out of his way to sus this noise out and I couldn't be happier with their service.

As I said in the other thread you started, as it stands I'm not overly impressed with the driveability to be brutally honest. If these new springs can dull the noise a bit, and I can change my driving style around the nuances, I'll learn to love it. The reason I got the thing was for extra traction when all the turbo gear gets bolted on (but with moving on the horizon, god knows when that'll happen), so ATM its not really giving me that many benefits, other than taking off in the wet (was almost impossible with the SS).

Perhaps you'll just have to drive it everywhere locked to ensure that this noise isn't heard again. The abundance of tyre smoke should also prevent your eyes from going through the torment of seeing said moles.
