New rims

Postby sphell » December 2nd, 2007, 4:47 pm

Got round to fitting these this arvo. 20" Decorsa's with 225/35 tyres. Had to 'modify' (aka grind) the existing wheel studs so they didn't protrude past the face of the adapter hubs. Thanks to Rollin and others for not being wankers like the AFF guys and actually giving me some useful advice on doing this instead of just ranting on about the legalities of adapter hubs.

Anyway here are a few pics, the car is looking a bit second hand because it's dirty and I ripped off the side moulds and all the double sided tape is still stuck on the doors. And yes I know......the car is too high lol. It's kinda 4wd spec at the moment but I'll fix that soon :)

Looks good Doug. Are you going to leave the side moulds off ? The low series ones look shit anyway, do something about that exhaust tip too. :P

Wasn't there a red EF/EL at AFD 2005 with those rims?

Good to see something different, but I'm not a fan sorry (then again I'm a fag who likes hubcaps and 16s). Probably looks awesome in the flesh though

They look tough on it, I don't think they'd look as good if it had a kit though, they suit the plain look of a kit-less EF.

Yeah gonna dump it a bit more, I need some front struts like the Pedder's sportsryder ones with the lower spring lands and some ultralow springs. After seeing Kaddis's car with the airbags I'd love to do that but it sounds like too much effort and money. I've got the old side moulds from Damo's old XR but they aren't painted yet....I'm gonna put them on. And I will get rid of the exhaust tip when I get an exhaust. I don't want to cut it off behind the bar cause I've done that before and you get the exhaust fumes in the car.

Apart from that, I'm not into body kits or anything....I like the western suburbs spec look - slammed, big rims, gauges, rear venetian and a massive sticker of a performance shop on the back window ;)

Best. Rims. Ever.

A mate used to have them on his AU3 Rebel, plates were FPRWPN. Loved them ever since. Also seen them powdercoated white on an EF/EL XR8 without a kit, and that looked hot too! Wanted them for my EL, but could never find them.

Sunny and I got round to lowering the car a bit more yesterday. I went to Pedders and got some of their SportsRyder struts for the front and put them in with the existing superlows, and we cut 1.5 coils off the rear. The car sits perfectly even front and rear now. The ride is a bit bumpy from the cut rear springs but I will mod the top of the suspension to give it a bit more travel next weekend. I might also put some new rear shocks in as the comfort gas ones are about 80 bux each which isn't too bad.

I guess in the end it's up to Doug if he wants to announce where he got them. I'm not saying it's a secret because I want to get them, I did before but I'm not going to go and get them now if Doug has bought them. It was originally his idea from back in '04 when he sprayed his car anyway - before that he'd seen them on that EF XR6 Turbo.

Forums have been known to have a lot of "copycats" around. A lot of trends are started through them and I'd hate to see such a rare wheel on every 5th modified Falcon going around. They've been around for yonks but noone on forums really caught on.

They are pricy though!

mostly various toyotas, and generally not as big.

thanks for the comments guys, I'm really happy with how it sits now....it's exactly the look I was going for. I won't say where I got them exactly but I can tell you it wasn't from a tyre chain store like Tyre Factory or anything, and it definetely wasn't in the Eastern suburbs ;)

Jase, the guy quoted me around 80-something each for Comfort Gas shocks, they are the white ones. The SportsRyder shocks for the rear were about double that I think I wasn't really listening lol.....they are both shorter shocks than standard though so I'd probably just go with the Comfort Gas cause that's what I had in my EA BITD and they were fine. When I bought the front struts, I showed him my business card and he gave me 'trade' price he reckons.....it was bullshit really but he pretty much knocked off the GST which is better than nothing. The fronts were $405. Pricey but worth it....and when you take into account I considered airbags for a little bit until I emailed a guy for a quote and it was gonna be about $6000, the Pedders are chump change lol.

Doug I wouldn't be compromising your ride quality by using the comfort gas shocks.
Car being that low I wouldn't even consider it. Go with the 9180's if at all possible.

Car looks fuggen awesome by the way!
