Whats your best avg fuel consumption while towing?

for those with trip computers and what were you towing when you did it.....I got 12.5 recently towing boat with 3 peoples on board.

horse float 2 horses 20ls gas 100ks dosnt change ...

och two horses and a float got alot more weight then my tinny tho so that figures I guess.

just completed a towing trip to hervey bay saw my consumption dip as low as 11.5 before hitting the christmas eve chock and crawl for 45 mins finished up 12.5 without AC going. going home was 14.3 with A/C going and towing fully loaded car on both trips.

Excellent results, if you have any particular driving techniques I'd be all ears.

The weight of the load is important to consider before comparing figures though, and also the average speed as well as any other somewhat relevant factors like gradients, winds, hilly terrain, the aerodynamics of the trailer etc.

This is off topic but under perfect hypermiling conditions (no passengers or load, smooth freeway, cruise control, steady 85 km/h-ish speed) the VT is achieving around 7 L/100km as a 2-way average. :geek:

Best way to not chew fuel is to avoid any spirited driving. Generaly keep it under 3 grand. On a flat highway use the top gear or overdrive if your car has it. You'd be surpirsed how little fuel you can scrape by on when you baby it. Loaded a Camry up with a few hundred kgs of firewood which was enough to tuck the back wheels and still done 20kms with the fuel light on.
