Licence Suspension

Postby Kenaz » February 4th, 2011, 9:32 am

Just got a couple of questions re: driver licence suspensions, specifically in vic.

As of today my licence is suspended for 1 month. I've already paid the fine, and I was reading more carefully through the infringement notice and saw that I have to mail my licence to Vic Roads. The only problem with this is that it's my only form of photo ID and I'll need it over the coming month as I've got a couple of flights to catch.

I called vic roads and asked what the deal is and the woman said I'm "supposed" to surrender it for the duration of the month. Supposed to? I asked what happens if I don't and was told that I "might" be issued with a further fine.

My question is, has anyone been through this before? If so, did you surrender the licence? If you didn't, did you get fined or anything?

Also, what's their definition of a 1 month suspension? Is it 31 days or from the 4th Feb until 4th March? I forgot to ask while I was on the phone and it doesn't say on the infringement notice.

I didn't surrender it. I didn't get a fine

That's not to say you won't either though. Myself. If I needed it I would risk it

i had mine suspended twice, 1st time was a week and i kept it - no fine and this was 3 years ago
2nd time was 3months and i sent it in the mail to where they told me to, by the end of the time they didnt send it back, was about 3 weeks after i got my licence legally back i gave them a call and they had lost it in all the other ones saying they had so many to get through that were backing up. so if i was you id just keep it and not send it to them, not worth the hassle.
mine also clearly stated on a letter i got which day i was to loose it and which day i was to get it back at midnight.

In QLD (it's probably diff) you only have to hand it in if its a court disqualification.

Suspensions here, your licence still runs normally, you just can't drive.

Disqualtifactions is your licence is stopped and when you get it back your on your P's for a year lol.

I've lost my licence seven times :(

Had a mate lose his for 6 and another lose his for 1, both on P's, both had to hand it in, though that was only to have a new copy sent out with his new end dates on it :\

Never heard of you having to surrender your licence for the duration, seems stupid :s

With both of theres a month was equal to the same day of the next month (did not take in to consideration leap years, month with less days etc)

Pretty sure if you get disqualified from driving by a court you go on your P's for a year regardless of how old you are, but I can't seem to find it written anywhere so maybe you're correct.

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. You'll get a fine if you're stupid enough to produce it if you're stupid enough to be pulled up driving whilst suspended. That's about it really.

Worked for VR for 2 years, never heard of anyone being issued with the fine.

Case closed.

Lost my licence four months ago for six months and was supposed to hand it in... haven't. I had a flight to catch shortly afterwards so I needed it for that and I even had a bottle shop guy ask me for ID, I asked him if he was drunk and he didn't find that funny so I had to get my licence out. I'm not expecting anything to come from not handing it in. What? am I supposed to get an 18+ card while suspended... they can suck it!

BTW I believe that you get put on a good behaviour licence after a court suspension. I'm not looking forward to that.
