just want to know how to check if a car's odometer has been turned back. my mate told me some dodgy people do this to sell their cars for more.

if its the AU in your avatar, the only ways to really tell is service records and if it has been changed the computer will log a code saying the odometer has been changed

cool. i dint know that. how about older cars like the e-series? are they the same?

if its a mechincial one (numbers that spin) i don't think there is a way to check. but with the digitle one some people just disconnect the wire. best bet would be what xr_lightning said

ask weavaah about it. i think he mentioned that he his odometer stopped working but the ecu recorded the true numbers...

the mechanic i took it took plugged in hes lappy and he said if the people reset the ecu when they changed my motor it should have a record of how long ago

edit. unless he was talking shit thats what he did for me and he said it was around 22k k's ago

pull your dash out and see if the people left a note like " oh no, not again" . found this in a mate's hilux ha ha.

Vicroads records odometer readings when rego changes over. If it's substantial they could properly tell you.

Vicroads dont record readings, ive never been asked for one

It gets written on the Rwc certificate.

funny story chubbz on here sold EDGHIA with 220,000kms a few months back... new owner put up on ebay with only 167,000kms now.... surely vicroads will get onto that?

On an AU does the ecu or the dash record kms, I found half a pack of mylanta behind my dash, which makes me doubt that it was at 130xxxkms when I bought it
