BA wagon + standard turbo motor and auto.

Gents,

Not sure what will be required but as the title suggest a mate has a ba wagon and wants to turbo it but stay legit etc.

So i suggested get a standard turbo motor and box and do a transplant.

Is this as easy as i think it will be? or has my imagination run away from me?

Can anyone see any holes in my logic.

plan is to run standard turbo gear for everything from computer to intercooler etc.

Hey mate I have done the conversion myself. I was surprised at how easy it actually is it is just a straight engine swap. But instead of running the standard turbo computer have you thought about just flash tuning the standard computer and running your own boost control? That's what I did with mine makes it so much easier you don't have to stuff around with wiring looms and you also don't have to take the car to ford so they can program your car to run on the turbo computer.

i dont know how effectiv that way is in regards to tuning, and then you have to get a flash tuner to tune it, if you just want stock power to start with its as easy as changing the map sensor fuel pressure reg and ecu you need to buy 1 loom connector from ford or a wrecker and modify your own front loom.. or if you have a mate with an xr6 who never wants to boost it you can get all the connectors off their looms and run your own wires (pretty simple considering you have the front bar off to fit cooler anyway)

Yeah but still alot more work then running a boost control and flash tune.

And you would also have to trailer the car to ford so they can program the computer.

unsure yet as I am actually yet to get it on a dyno for a proper tune. Still running around on the 10psi tune that came with the flash tuner  It needs a proper tune and will have to get there and get it done when I get time. But from what I was told it should be around the 250-260rwkw mark.

There is something appealing with the idea of having a car that can run 12's that you can sleep in the back of.

Maybe one of these can be my next car.

sweet.

With this flash tuning of the standard ecu i presume its just the same flash tuners used on all the xr6t's etc? possibly even buy one second hand of ebay if thats the case with a map installed ready to at least get the thing moving.

You only need a flash tuner if your using a BA PCM

So if you can get a BF wagon and a turbo motor from a BF, They can then plug into the computer, no flash box needed.

if in doubt ask people who have done it, Ferntree Gully Auto Salvage have done it (F6 Tsunami Wagon - std wagon with XR front in Vixen Red from memory) they might be able to help you a bit or give you some guidance

Unsure about BF models but for the BA flash tune you need a special tune put into the flash box. It is basically the same as the normal tune but a bit different some how. Contact the bloke selling the flash tune boxes from Geelong as he is the bloke that done mine and he can just sell you the flash tuner with the program ready to go.

would all the running gear engine to diff including the tailshaft and maybe even the suspension be a straight swap between an ba turbo ute and a ba wagon? pretty sure they run the same chassis.

reason being ive got a turbo ute, wouldnt mind a change but dont want to lose all the money ive spent on the running gear. so thinking maybe buy a wagon and swap the running gear and then sell the ute as a stocky

Tailshafts are different length mate everything else is the same
