as nl_concorde wrote. there is the factory xd/xf clutch cable bracket that sits on the engine side of the firewall. it braces the area pretty well. pretty sure you can still buy them from ford. dont quote me on that though.
good luck.

We just got two steel plates drilled 3 holes.
Top and bottom holes = bolt and nut
Middle hole = cable goes through
Sandwich plate...
Cost us **** all.

If you know someone with a MIG you can just weld it up. Make sure you get someone to hold a wet rag on the inside so you dont set the carpet on fire.

i am a 3rd year mechanic and i bought a xr6 ef with the same crack in the fire wall. ford have a part that you can bolt in and it is pretty easy if you can use a drill and unhook the clutch cable. it coasts about $50. i fitted it to the car by bolting in not welding it and i also used 2 thicker plates and placed one on one side of the fire wall and one on the side. placed the ford part inbetween the two plats and on the engine bay side of the fire wall. hope this helps. if your clutch is still heavy and garbby it might need a new clutch or a new bearing retainer (what holds the thrust bearing around the input shaft. this bearing retainer or snout can become ribbed with the thrust bearing operation. this is what happened to me. and once all fixed and you find your self adjusting the clutch pedal allot you may have a cracked pedal box.
