Ever locked your keys in your car?

Postby Commando » January 14th, 2008, 8:26 am

I got this in an email this morning, might be an interesting thing to try out (test at AFD maybe? :P). It's probably bullshit but worth a shot.

Email:

Have you locked your keys in the car?

Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to
drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone!"

Sounds like BS, I doubt the frequencies that the remotes operate at would be within the input range of a mobile phone's microphone- or the output range of the speaker...

Hows this- someknt reckons to me that if you bang on the roof of an E-series it will unlock. Supposedly so the doors will unlock if the car rolls.

I've never seen any kind of smartlock shock sensor in the roof of an E-series!

I heard you can unlock a Falcon by lifting up lifting up the driver's side door handle 20 times, yelling at the car, lifting the boot handle once or twice, yelling at and kicking the car a few times, POSSIBLY trying to open it with a coat-hanger down the side of the window, then finally breaking a window and opening it from the inside... or calling a locksmith? Anyone tried this?

calmy apply 20,000 foot pounds of force with large hammer to any window except for windscreen, and hey presto within 5 seconds its unlocked and your driving away albeit sitting on bit of broken glass.......

Chuck Norris does not need car keys, using the force it takes him where he needs to go.....

but how can you lock the remote in the car when you need the remote to lock it?
you would need a key to lock it without the remote, but then the key is out side the car!

My mate managed to lock my keys inside my boot... Took me forever and ever to get them out. Eventually I pulled out one of the rear speakers and got my mate dangles (named so because of his unusually long arms and legs) to reach in and get them amongst a sub, gas tank and 3 footy bags.

Depends on your alarm system. My EB is pre-smartlock but has a remote locking/immobiliser system. Sometimes when you unlock the car with the remote, it will re-lock itself after about 30 seconds if you don't start the car. So, there's the possibility that you unlock the car, put the keys in the ignition (OFF, not accessories, etc), then go back to the house or whatever because you'd forgotten something. You come back 1 minute later and hey presto, your keys AND remote are locked inside the car!

My front door holder-openerers are stuffed so they swing back shut, unless you're parked downhill. But I tell my passengers it's a special Ghia option ("self-closing doors" :P)

I have a heap of funny 'locking-keys-in-car-stories'...

On a mates' way home one night pissed (20klm trip down the Midland highway), about 5klm into the journey he realised he shouldnt be driving so pulled over and started walking... Got a few klms down the road and thought he left his keys in the car, so ventured back to find the thing locked!
CBF walking anymore so found the biggest branch around, started laying into the patrol's back window hitting every panel bar the window making a mess of the roof, quarters, plastics etc. Sat down against the tyre for a bit of a 'rest' and woke up at dawn with a truck tooting him on his way past. All with his keys in his pocket... lol.
At least he stopped driving i guess? Shouldnt have started but hey.

I locked my keys in my Gemini heaps of times, luckilly i always had the sunroof up which was one of those dodgy flip up types. Just had to pull out a red pin, remove the glass and scale right in. Was even funnier when the Police drove past once in busy Packington street, 20 quick questions!

I'll believe you guys and spread it as a rumor simply because of my CBF factor when it comes to trying it out for myself.

My brother said he tried it with my uncles BA and said it worked......but he never lets the truth get in the way of a good yarn sometimes.....

Me and a few mates were at watergardens a few months ago, we parked the car and noticed that the car next to us had it's keys in it and was still running, anyways we went in, watched a movie, came back outside and it was still there running! The owner was there with her son in-law or something, we ended up getting the boot open and smashing the back seat down for em to get inside lol, was pretty funny the radio was on and all.

I locked the keys inside a family friends Festiva today (i'm driving it around for her) had to call RACV to get em out, the guy done it in about 5 secs, if I knew it was that easy I would have done it myself.....ah well it was free anyway!

I heard that if u jump on a skyline roof the doors will unlock, safety mechanism incase it rolls... anyone wanna try it... :p im guessing its bs...

At work if we lock keys in the car we use wiring diagrams to pulse the central locking thru a loom near the front guard... not that we have to do that often

My alarm does the 'auto re-lock' thing if the doors haven't been opened within 30 seconds of unlocking, and it's caught me out once.

Was leaving my (then) girlfriends house, unlocked the car, put the keys in the ignition and let the door close (due to the hill the car was parked on) turned round to give her a hug, heard 'wiiiiiirclunk' of the doors locking behind me  I mustn't have had the door open long enough for the alarm to register or something...ended up getting the drivers door open without damage, with a broom handle.

Me > Chuck Norris.

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

My car COULD do it, that's why as a precaution I'll always put the window down if i have to get out of my car while it's running. I could still quite easily lock my keys in the car through being a n00b, but at least I haven't had to resort to carrying around a spare set like my friend.

I have locked my keys in the eb, how? well my mate wanted to charge his phone in my car while we were at this party so i plugged the charger in the cig lighter and turned the key. But i didnt want to leave my car unlocked with the keys in it while im at this party with heaps of drunk kids running around so i took the buttons off the keys and tried to lock the car.... nope that didnt work. So i climbed in through the back door and pressed the lock doors button inside the car, but i kept the back door open thinking it wouldnt lock, so i got out shut the door and thought oh crap wtf did i just do haha. One phone call to racq and one hour later i got my keys back :D

btw i was pretty drunk, thats why i did it :(

Haha! Sounds like something a drunk me would do. I would've blamed it all on the car too - "feckin' thing just locked itself! Since when do the doors lock when they're open??"

If you lock the car at all, the rear doors will lock even if they are open, AFAIK all e-series are like that.

Does anyone know how RACV manage to unlock any car so quickly, i saw RACV use a piece of wire on my gf's corona, then some metal slip down the door window....
should be a tutorial on it somewhere??? 8-)

VN-VS they just bend the top of the door open and put a bit of wire down to pull the lock up.
A mates brothers VL could be opened and started with literally anthing that fitted in the lock.
Including the handle end of a plastic spoon.
