Getting off wheel lock nuts with no key! :(

Hey guys, recently purchased an EA SVO to wreck ( was smashed in the front ), now i got to the joyous part of taking the wheels off only to find that there are lock nuts on the wheels but apparently no key, im sure some of you have been through this before and might be able to help out? any info would be appreciated
I purchased a 19mm tube impact socket ( has to be tube socket as the svo wheel nut holes are rather long! ( which means no pliers, clamps, multi grips etc will help at all ) and belted it on the lock nut, was a tad loose and slipped so i purcased a 18mm tube impact socket and it was a tighter fit however ended up slipping as whoever did the lock nuts up last must have used a rattle gun and had it set on a gajillion nm of torque!
I really dont want to have to send this shell to the wreckers with a almost mint set of svo wheels on it, so if anyone can help i would really appreciate it
Cheers

i've only ever used sockets, used a sledge hammer to get it on there.
otherwise, you might be able to drill them out, but it'll be a shit job.

i did a set on mine last week
just keep fuckin round with sockets.
think most of mine came off with normal sockets instead of impact sockets.
just **** around with metric and imperial sizes to find one that gets tight enough.
they will eventually come off.

Thanks for the input guys, i dont have many tube sockets so im gunna grab a few more, but never hurts to buy more tools ey, i think i'll try a 17mm next and see what happens as the 18 was tight until the first couple turns then got a bit loose so i would think 17 is the next logical step, after having a look it seems only the 2 front rims have the lock nuts which i guess is a bonus lol, the last owners must have had the same problem and could only get the rears off
Cheers

17 might be bit to small
grab a set would be better.
even if its a $20 set from supercheap

I used double hex sidchrome sockets, possibly able to get more bite without having to go too small?

Yeah went to local supercheap, waiting on them to get the cheap sets in, they had bugger all, 18mm fits on and you can turn it to a point then it just slips, perhaps an 11/16 instead then
Cheers

Yeah i have seen a couple of the kits, but i think the issue im going to have with them is i need to get them down a narrow 2-3inch hole before i even get to the lock nut, hence why i need tube sockets, a few of the lock nut removal socket sets i have seen dont appear to be long enough, will keep looking tho
Cheers

The wheel nuts are the right ones, really long, the lock nuts are normal size nubby buggers so on a svo wheel they are right in there deep into the hole

I ran into this issue about a month back when the tyre shop lost my key

. Getting them off was scarily easy.
1: Take a photo of the locknut head/key pattern.
2: Go to supercheap and find the closest locknut set which match the photo (you won't find an identical match, but should get close).
3: Take said key out of new locknut set, and using a drift or 1/2" drive extension, hammer the shit out of the key into the locknut.
4: Undo nut.
I had all four on my car off within 5 minutes.

This is a great way. I always find a socket easiest
Not cheap shit sockets they break, 15/16s normally does well
What time are you home Friday? I can pop down after work with my socket setS

it also depends what type of locknut they are, there not all the same, some cant be taken off with a socket and you have to resort to a hammer & chisel or and air-chisel

Hey Damo, Svo wheels man so deep hole before you get to the nut, so there is now way of getting a chisel near the lock nut
Cheers

Doesnt matter what lock nut they are ive always gotten them off with sockets from 15mm to 23mm
Just gotta hit them on hard and use a hi-torque rattle gun.
Always does it for me

Just an update lads, josh_ef came over today ( thanks mate, much appreciated ) and had a crack at it and we couldnt even get them to budge, the last time they were done up must have been with a rattle gun at a tyre shop! ( 1000000000000nm ) lol, next step i guess is trying to pull half the front apart and trying to grind the rear of the wheel stud from the back of the disc or something

Cheers

Post a photo of the lock nut mate.
I wanna see these things.
Yeah I know the ones.
They are generally studs and have like a multi multi star that looks stupid in there.
I use my hex head set and smash them in there

Couldnt really get a proper pic of it, if i moved the lense into the hole i had no flash lol, this pic gives you an idea how deep in the wheel it is, doubt thats any help tho, these lock nuts have the weird shaped doodles on the side which sorta looks like a mangled hex shape lol

smash a socket on it and use a long (like, long) breaker bar to snap the stud off

Hey mate, have tried multiple sockets, and smashed them on pretty hard, as a fair bit of force is required i only end up shearing more off the lock nut itself, will keep at it tho, i want my svo wheels off!!!! lol
