i have a 94 ed just been built when i start it the oil gauge goes up to 7 witch is the max and stays there when i turn the car of it instantly goes down. 7bar is about 100psi and its probably higher then this as the needle is pined at 7. does anyone know if this is normal for a new engine or what the oil pressure is meant to be in the 4lt

Wouldn't go by the gauge on the dash, get an oil pressure tester and test it at the motor.

what oil sender do you have?
as you could have the wrong one or yours has just died.
its a typical trait to read all the way on max constantly if the wrong one is fitted if you have the sports cluster
the one that looks like a button is just a idiot light for the lower spec dash cluster. on the models with the sports cluster. it uses a different sender thats got a huge dome on the top. (like a mushroom)

How long is it? Is the dome on the end of a long hex section? It's probably cactus if it's the right one and reading wrong, either that or the wire has fallen off it and/ or the wire has rubbed through somewhere and it's earthing on something else.

is the connection loose for the wiring and did you use any thread sealant like teflon tape on it when it was refitted?
only reason i ask is some senders dont like the added resistance of thread sealants if it isnt a sensor safe type one
able to post a pic of yours as i dont have the upper spec dash myself or have acess to one that would look like yours

i just put a diff one in and got the same reading ill check the wiring but i think im getting high pressure because im getting blow by on the turbo exhaust side iv tried 2 turbo's both brand new and both are not barring turbos

It sounds like a wiring issue to me. Check it all out carefully.

looking at the pic you have the wrong one for a ed?
as the pressure sender isnt as large of a socket size.. you'd have the switch not the pressure sender going by socket size.
iirc ef el pressure senders look like a long dome and are a different reading range too btw
what cluster are you using as im presuming you are using the sports\xr cluster in the ed..
the one for the xr\spoerts cluster for a ed is meant to be the domed type.

went hunting on google so ignore the t peice & other stuff as its meant to screw into the block as per standard
http://www.getprice.com.au/images/uploa ... _CPS35.jpgthats the one you have correct??
this is nothing more than a pressure switch. just to warn the driver the car has\or no oil pressure
(basically a bulb) a switch will make the oil pressure read max or rather high if its meant to have a sender

Switch = on/off, so it'll read max or min on the gauge.
You need a sensor, which is heaps larger.

i would say so mate.
i just changed my engine in my eb to a el and i had to swap the oil pressure sender/switch over from the eb engine and it worked straight away.

dannysebxr6 what does your pressure gauge sit on

when first idle bout 3bar
driving bout 2-2 1/2 bar
once warm say sitting in driveway bout 1- 1 1/2 bar dont know if its right but thats what it reads.
i suspect its not right but oil pressure light never comes on, so it could be correct.

Yeah you've only got a switch. It could have been swapped out by a previous owner for whatever reason, who knows.
If you're that concerned about knowing the exact oil pressure, fit an aftermarket pressure gauge as well.

the only reason i need to know oil pressure is because im think im getting to much oil pressure in the turbo im getting oil blowby into the exhaust side only
iv tried 2 brand new turbos and get the same thing i put a oil restricter in, and still i get the same blowby,.
i notice that the gauge was on 7bar so this was my first thought
i rebuilt the engine from ground up ever part is brand new i may have ordered the wrong sender now knowing its probably the wrong sender im stumped as to why im getting oil in the exhaust

What's the go with the oil pump? The relief valve might be stuck closed so you have too much oil pressure. Also, that does the turbo drain look like? Needs to be a pretty big diameter and have the most vertical drop possible into the sump.
It's possible that you might have located the drain high enough so that the crank is trying to throw the oil back up the drain as it spins, which won't allow it to drain properly.

right after fixing the problem i have manege to destroy the sump bung (its to small any way)
is there a way of putting in a new one with out taking the engine out ?

can you weld another in if you just dump the oil?
can you retern the oil into the sump plug hole ?
