OK this is just cool - Ford Crown Victoria

I was doing a bit of virtual tyre kicking when I stumbled across this:
http://carsales.mobi/cars/details/?R=11896309A Crown Victoria in Australia. This is the first time I've ever heard of such a thing, correct me if I'm wrong. The only other times were all in my head while I was fantasising.
No doubt being LHD would be a pain, and if the cop stuff is removed then I wonder what it looks like now. The very thought is sacrilege, because in the Middle Eastern market, the Crown Victoria was the Chevy (Holden) Caprice's arch rival, but nonetheless I would love to buy this thing.

I have wanted to import a Crown Vic for as long as I have wanted a Ford...they are a sweet car (and only have V8s to my knowledge)

I want one bad! Or a mercury marauder. Would be a very cool car
Trouble is it must be converted to right hand drive and complianced to be registered as its not old enough to leave LHD.

Ha ha that's great.
There's a million YouTube vids of these things on bags.
They look great slammed on stock wheels.

Marauders have the NA version of the the supercharged terminator cobra motor.(quad cam 4.6V8) The top end swap is very easy on them. A number of them on YouTube

i drove one around San Francisco for a few days while we were over there a couple of years ago. My buddy picked it up at a police auction. It was stripped back down to civilian spec, ie no cage, lights, stickers etc. But it still had the black and white markings and door spot lights. He turned it into the 'UFO Response Team' vehicle. Google it if u want a giggle. Oh. Point of the story - ie fukken boogied and was comfy to drive even after 300,000miles

I have made an enquiry with the seller. Would be a nice classic car to show off at All Ford Day etc.

This has been my question, without RHD conversion is there any way to drive this on public roads at all (to car shows etc, club rego?), or would it need to be transported on the back of a truck? It wouldn't exactly be a daily...

not old enough for club rego
permit you could get but only technically to go to and from mechanics n shit.
i would say pretty much have to be a trailer queen without a conversion

Some cars seem to have excemptions around LHD, and have stickers on the rear window to highlight it.
I seen some Chinese 'Buick' small car driving around Berwick about 2 weeks ago, LHD and a big sticker on the rear suggesting so.
Was a near new car.

You have to be able to get some sort of permit to drive it.
I always see chev badged holdens that are lhd testing on the roads

i think theres a big difference between new cars in testing situations to 5-15 year old private cars... that said id be more than happy to have a left hand drive sticker on the back of the car if there is a way to get around it!

Registered engineering evaluation vehicles have special usage conditions to be adhered to.
How often it gets enforced I don't know.

yeah, quite possible there arn't any options for a private use vehicle.
just slap a falcon interior into it and make a local steering rack fit

G'day all, just an update. I did check out the car today and made an offer which is quite likely to be accepted. It is definitely in good condition and a real novelty. I grew up around the classic US cop shows of the '90s (NYPD Blue et al) so it's hard not to be a bit irrational in this situation.
The legal side of things is very shady but the previous owner got by using Vicroads unregistered vehicle permits. I would very rarely use it (heck, I rarely use my main car since I get free public transport).
Will keep you posted.

Thanks guys, yep it's gone through and all that remains is delivery. My first Ford since the EA's demise about 6 years ago. I'd love to bring it along to AFD and any other relevant shows. And yes Wayne you can have a spin when an opportunity permits, after all you let me drive the NC back in the day.
The previous owner said he had owned it for about a year, and reckons he was pulled over about 20 times but never fined. Most cops are just interested. But he described it as a 'poor man's Ferrari' as it apparently attracts quite a lot of attention.
Cheers.

It's still as per the pictures, nothing was removed in the end. I'll get some proper pics when I can. In the meantime I have broken the news to the Pontiac G8 folk.

Hahah, you're on some odd forums

Time to turn the Caprice into a Police Interceptor.
wonder how hard it'd be to swap one of these things to RHD.

Previous owner was quoted $15k for the conversion! To my knowledge there's no RHD Crown Victoria in the world.
And yes the thought crossed my mind, all I'd have to do is paint the doors white and add some stickers and cop mags.
