Wayne was wrong about the 6 month thing. It's more like once a year this type of stuff comes up lol.

I had ESOC plate surrounds made up about 5 years ago but they're all gone now. Could probably see about making Boosted ones but last time people lost interest real quick.

I think he means club rego which boosted doesn't do

Your talking about number plate covers/surrounds

As mentioned, we do not to Club plates, considering 99% of the cars we deal with arn't old enough to be elligable.

In a few years it would be worth thinking about. Its basically the only advantage of being a "proper" club.

I'm talking about both.

The thing Wayne/LTDHO said would happen every 6 months is discussion around our club being made official. Until this happens we can't have cars on Boosted club rego, which is why I mentioned surrounds an option.

my main concern is that cars on club plates are typically meant to be roadworthy, like anything else.
if the club is seen to be supporting/allowing non-roadworthy vehicles to take advantage of the Club Permit scheme, it risks the club losing the permit, which disadvantages a lot of people who would then have no club permit, and no registration and have to go through a RWC again.

Club rego is much cheaper, I think It is $60 for 45 days? And 120 for 90 days? You get a log book, which you must fill out every time you go somewhere in the vehicle. Also insurance is a lot cheaper

club rego is about $90 for a year
only allowed to drive a certain amount of days per year (has a log book you have to fill out) but it is enough that you can drive almost every weekend i think.

most of all.
you dont have to get a propper rwc
each club that supports club rego has a person that is allowed to look over your car essentially doing a roadworthy but generally not as strict.

unfortunatly i think the car has to be 30 years or older to elegible for club rego (think its 30. i cant remember exactly)

and from what i understand from talking to a cop. they cant actually look up club rego in their system like they can other rego's.

Days per year are 45/90.
45 can be purchased but another 45 can be again purchased after that. Max of 90 in a 12 month period.
Car has to be over 25 years old from the date you apply for the permit.

And basically all the rules are very similar to a normal RWC...
I wouldn't like to be the person designated as an inspector for some clubs. There would be all sorts of arguments and stuff going on.
And when somebody or multiple people get busted with overlly defective cars and the club loses its privilge it will stuff it for everyone.

On that, say you had a full rego'd car, then went to club reg. Then the club lost their privilege to club rego. I wonder if you'd have to go right thru the full registration process again? That would suck.

holmsy... so much misinformation :P

nothin suss is on the ball though.

If a car is on a club permit, it is essentially 'unregistered' you are driving on a permit.
If the club can no longer renew permits, your car is unregistered and needs to go through the usual process to either get another permit with another club, or get full rego (inc RWC).

RWC requirements are upto the club, some clubs require a RWC, basically to cover themselves.
others have a technical officer that can sign off safety checks, but it is in the interest of the club to keep things above board, or they risk losing the ability to run the permits.

Sounds like it's just easier to pay full reg and forget about it.
I can understand if people have multiple mint historic cars etc that do a few club runs a year but for anything we are all interested in just sounds like grief.

lol i got general idea out john :P
been a while since i looked at it.

point of the whole lot is that it would be useless to 99% of us at the moment anyway

Exactly. For 1 car only I don't knoe how people cbf. For all the rooting around and extra.work involves, I'd rather pay normal rego.

I've been waiting for my XD to be 30 years old.. as it will be very, very hard to keep it registered under normal guidelines. Even though a mod plate will be relatively easy to get then it must always adhere to RWC rules, and in queensland we can put personalised plates on club rego'd cars so the police won't hassle you about driving, there are loopholes as well, like you can drive it within a certain range from your house for testing and repairs, or to club functions.

see in vic they changed the rules.
it used to be you could only drive to club events etc.

now its you can drive it for any reason you like.
as long as its log booked and not exceeding 90 days a year (or 45 if ya only pay for 45)

90 days works out to be almost every weekend. so is a fair bit still.

If your car is elligable, club rego is well worth it.
Saving $500 a year on rego, plus insurance is typically cheaper (i'm paying $120 or so per year).

requirements are completely upto the club, some you need to attend a certain amount of events etc. some you just have to attend a tech inspection once a year.
the process for getting the club plates is about the same as getting full rego, no appointment at vicroads for starters.

but if you have a car like a turbo eseries, then the club shouldn't be letting the car on the road with a permit.

Its definitely worth it. No more effort than regular rego. Only thing thats a slight pain in the ballbag is 30 seconds filling out the logbook before you go somewhere. I just do it while its warming up.

The amount of cash I saved putting the Mustang on club reg will pay for servicing, insurance and fuel for the year.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I was factoring in having to pay to join a club in the first place which I probably otherwise wouldn't do. This meant in real terms I would only save a few hundred over normal rego, and have to run a logbook, which was painful enough for the work cars when it's required!

I wonder how club regd cars are going with Police and EPA attention?
It'd have to be a giant neon sign saying pull me over wouldn't it?
Ive seen ratty VK commodores and early Skylines on this club rego, good on them but you still got to abide by most ADR's and rules as everybody else.
You still have height restrictions at 100mm min and mo more than 75mm raised , wheel restrictions, engine limitations and emissions to abide by.

I think about the only thing that's eased is bonnet scoops and protrusions.
Is anyone else aware of what else is up to the 'club inspectors' disgression?

I'm sure if you got busted playing up the cops would hit you with a canary and/or EPA just like anyone else.

Most cops don't seem to know much about the rules for full reg so I'd say they know even less about club reg.

When I got the stang inspected by my club I asked about mods and the guy reckons as long as the mods have been done properly its not a problem. By "properly" he was talking about a late model Windsor conversion also requiring a disc brake upgrade.

Unless you're being a fuckwit the cops will leave you alone... blowers hanging out the bonnet aren't a problem, wheel size and car height don't seem to be an issue either.

ive been told its extremely hard to have a club rego'ed car ever apply/reapply for normal / street rego once they have had club rego on their car. Food for thought.

Did they say why?

I can see it would be a problem for something like a custom built '32 rod that has no chance of passing a full roadworthy test. Even then, theres a few rod shops around that specialise in registering problem vehicles like that.

For most historic cars they would have had full reg before and as long as you can get a RWC for them I don't see the problem. Unless theres some Vicroads shitcuntery involved that I don't know about.

My uncle sold a car that was on club rego, the new owner put normal rego on it no problem. You just have to get RWC like normal.

Yeah, getting normal reg on a car after it being on club reg is no different to a car being unreg'd.

typically cars on club reg should follow all the same rules as a regular registered cars, some clubs arn't happy about seeing cars with blowers hanging out the bonnet and 14" wide wheels on club plates because it puts the whole scheme at risk.

but honestly, to be a member of a club, get the permit and insure it is all of $350... 1/2 the price of *just* the rego.
