All Ford Day Judges

Just got this from one of the AFD Organisers, if anyones interested let me know.

Hi Everyone,

I’d like to introduce myself, my name is Tony Porter and I’m looking after the Judging side of the Geelong All Ford Day. As well as being a member of the Kiwanis Club of Geelong, I have been a member of the Falcon GT Club of Geelong for about 17 years and have been involved in the GT Nationals as a judge/scruteneer for the last 12 years.

Firstly, I’d like to apologise for the lateness of this email request. I am emailing you because I don’t have a telephone contact number or couldn’t contact you.

As you know, last year our event was cancelled at the last minute due to the venue. This year we had a very late confirmation of the venue which has left us with a very short time to organise and confirm all of the details. As a result of that we have been unable to secure the judging team that we have used for the last few years. I have tried the usual avenues to get another judging team, but to no avail.

What we have decided to do is to adopt a system similar to that of the Sydney All Ford Day, in that we use a team consisting of members of the participating car clubs. This obviously has some good and bad points. The worst being that some of the members have to give up their time for a few hours on the day. The best is that every club has involvement and some ownership of the process and the results.

What I am requesting of you is to talk to your members and see if you can acquire the services of 1 or 2 of them to help out on day. Obviously the more people we get, the smaller the work load for everybody. We can use runners and scribes as well, so those who don’t have the confidence to judge can help and learn along the way. To date, I have had a great response from the clubs that I’ve already spoken to.

We will be giving free entry, lunch and drinks to those that volunteer to assist us on the day.

Please let me know the names and contact details (if possible) of your members who can assist, via email or phone, 0400 ######, by 12th February ’08.

Thank you for your help with this matter.

Kind Regards,

Tony Porter

i'm sure they'd have some kind of setup to prevent that being an issue.
e-series owners club couldn't judge eseries etc.

Well I'll probably be in CBF mode all of Sunday anyway, I'm not up for it this year sorry. Hopefully someone else here can step up for it.

They do this at the SA AFD, and they look at what car/s you have entered, then get you to judge a totally different class of vehicle. They supply a sheet containing everything to look for and score on. It's not like Summernats, all you really look for is how well the car is detailed and finished, not on engineering, originality of mods etc etc, a polished stocker with a detailed/clean engine bay and neat interior/boot will be the winner.

That's why Fairmont1998 won last years AFD :P

[edit] Although it was amusing last year, Lee (hotwire on AFF), one of the original SA E-Series cruise reps (along with Chris) entered his XW GT rep, did some judging and ended up judging the E-Series section..

Aaron - yeah i have picked up runner-up trophies for the last two years in a row at the geelong afd, same boat as fairmont1998 in that i have fark all mods.

as most of you know already, its about how much effort you put into cleaning and what condition the car is in.. If you have spent 30,000 on mods but cant be bothered to clean the dirt buildup off your engine bay or grass off your carpet you wont win. (unless this new judging works in favour for someone!) which would be cool for the winner, but terrible for the other entrants...
