hi,
iv got an el intake manifold sittin in my garage and i was jus wondering if any1 has put 1 on an ebII b4?
duz any1 no wat needs 2 b replaced? (iv heard heater pipe that goes around the back of engine)
also does any body no of good intake piping 2 use or should i jus use standard piping?
its a 6 of coarse!
any help would be appreciated

not really a I6 guy but from what ive heard people have had a lot of dramas when doing this conversion?

its not that hard really, and a shedload of people have done it... Definitely replace the heater pipes, and hoses. You will need a new accelerator cable and EL accelerator pedal.
The only tricky bit is getting the intake runners switching. JayCar have a 3 stage shift-light that you can use to control the manifold, and also use for a shiftlight.
I have made the shift-light, but not fitted it yet. So i am yet to reap the full rewards of this conversion yet. I have been told by tuners that you can expect around 30-40nm of torque down low, which would be handy.

umm... well some people say its awesome down low, and you might lose a little up top. I didnt lose anything up top. You will also need to run an EL computer, other wise it will run rich up top, and lose hp. I have a chip which i have had tuned after fititng this manifold.
if you plan on turbo'ing your car, I probably wouldnt do it.

el ecu on eb and above = pretty easy only a few wires need to be added
el ecu on ea = harder as trans needs to be moved from TCM to ECU (ive done this)
el manifold = easier to work on things like starter motor, coil, dizzy, leads but more complex for turbo piping.
i would say go the el manifold if you are staying NA, but for turbo i would go ea-ed for ease of piping and what not.
manifold = direct replacement
fuel lines need slight modding
vacuum lines need slight modding
heater pipes need slight modding
get a EL map sensor as well.

yeh im gona stay n/a 4 atlest another year so i wana put the el intake on,
so list of stuff i need is:
intake manifold (obviously)
heater piping (around rear of engine)
ECU (el)
MAP sensor (el)
accel cable & pedal (el)
any thing else?
is it possible to keep the intake runners open all the time?
i have cruise crontrol on mine, will el cruise cable fit properly?
hey OED666 how much did the chip set u back and wat sort is it?

I was under the impression the MAP sensors were the same for all e-series? If the ELs are different can you explain how they are different to those found on EA-ED?
cheers

is any of this worth the hastle?
coz ive got some good intake mods 4 the eb intake so should i not bother?
how big would u say the difference is OED666?

Yes they are same, I still use my EA one with my BBM/EL ecu conversion amongst other mods.
The only difference is the ef/el had some sort of one way valve to stop them getting destroyed when LPG cars backfired.

Without the EL ecu, no its not worth the hassle
you will also have to put in thermo fans
I reckon it is worth it for the low down torque, if you dont go el ecu then you lose top end rwkw, I lost around 10rwkw without the el ecu.

i have a chiptorque chip. i picked it up on ebay a couple of years ago for under 200. i then had to get it tuned, which costs a few hundred as well.
i cant comment yet on the actual benefits of the bbm yet, but from what i have been told it should be good.

so can anybody give me some real positive feedback about el manifold on eb that would get me off my arse to do this mod?

if i was to replace my whole engine with an el 1 with el ECU would it all hook strait up?
otha then ECU + looms to engine + engine wat else would i need?

AU motor runs coil packs, you need to retrofit a dizzy

I'm not sure if the AU BBM is a problem as well (compared to EF-EL BBMs). Then do everything else as if you were fitting an EL engine (EL ECU for example)

but if i used an au ecu would it work?

Nah, AU ecu works with coil packs, not dizzy. I'm assuming it has farkloads more pinouts too, as per EF ECU (100something vs 60somthing) so you'd have to fvck around with your whole loom too to get the AU ECU working

EL ECU + dizzy = yes, this will work in your EB.
AU/EF ECU + dizzy = fail
AU/EF ECU + coil packs = fail
AU/EF ECU + coil packs + mass fvckage with the loom = EL ECU + dizzy + effort x 11ty

just checking, is there any fuel lines or anything other than engine-ECU-looms that need to be changed when doing an el engine conversion into eb?
also are eb-el coils interchangable?
please help

bloody hell, you cheese puff. ef/el on have quick connectors. you'll need to get some fittings and cut the el lines and cut the eb lines and make them connect up.
you keep all the original looms but modify the ebii one to suit the el engine using the an el engine loom.
you need to run 4 extra wires for the fans and bbm. 1x ignition power + 1x bbm signal + 2x thermo signal.
and obviously the heavy power for the fans and relays.
FUXSAKE!
EDIT: ALSO 2 twisted wires for the knock sensor

what do i do with the knock sensor?
where do i run the extra 4 wires from?
what connector (electrical) is there for the bbm? i cant find one on the engine and didnt see one on the loom. as far as i understand the bbm is opperated by vacuum and only vacuum, please help me with this 1?
is there a different loom for the fans or bbm?
so are the coils interchangable?

burnt turtle wrote:what do i do with the knock sensor?
run wires the sensor on the block to the ecu? is this a trick question??
burnt turtle wrote:where do i run the extra 4 wires from?
you run ignition power from behind the dash somewhere or in the ECU loom to the BBM solenoid (more later), and to power the relays for the fans. THATS 1 !
you have a signal wire running from the BBM solenoid to the ECU
you have 2 signal wires coming from the relay setup to the ECU.
burnt turtle wrote:what connector (electrical) is there for the bbm? i cant find one on the engine and didnt see one on the loom. as far as i understand the bbm is opperated by vacuum and only vacuum, please help me with this 1?
YES the bbm runs on vacuum, but the ECU switches a solenoid which lets it switch at the desired rpm. in an EF/EL this solenoid sits behind the washer bottle.
you would be wiring 12v to this and running the other wire to the ecu, you see?
burnt turtle wrote:is there a different loom for the fans or bbm?
the bbm switch is usually part of the engine bay wiring as the solenoid would stay in place when you pull the motor due to quickconnects for the vacuum tree.
the wiring for the fan relays usually runs from the ecu, across the dash, down the front right guard, into the engine bay, across the front of the rad support to where the relays sit in front of the air box. you dont and wont have this wiring, instead run these wires from the relay setup (which you should get from an EL for simplicities sake) to the ECU, being an eb, the engine bay wiring is an abortion already so take the most direct route.
burnt turtle wrote:so are the coils interchangable?
again trick question? EB's and ELs run the same ignition setup. so yes.

EB and EF coils are interchangable.
an AU engine will connect straight up to your EB loom.
Might as well just fit a BA ECU, its easier.

so am i correct to say that the bbm connection to the ecu is so that the butterfly's will open at a different point under different driving conditions?
also is there any extra vacuum lines or connections required to operate the bbm?
so if i connected the bbm up with all the correct vacuum lines it will operate?
but at the same time everytime?

BBM switches its butterflies at approx 3800rpm.

So it knows when it's doing 3800rpm.
You better be doing all this shit with the amount of help you've been given.

but its vacuum operated!!
its not asthough the ecu tells the bbm the engines doing 3800rpm and it switches.

omg
this is an absolute joke. get a friggen manual. read some shit, this information is floating around on the internets, you're not performing brain science or rocket surgery.
how about this:
wire the EL engine up using the EB loom, plug in the EL ECU, make the electric fans turn on (any knuckle dragger with 1/2 a braincell can figure that out).
worry about the other shit later.
how about this for a mind melter. with the engine off the bbm is pulled to the "high rpm" mode via a spring. it actally uses vacuum to pull the runners to low rpm mode.
WOW HUH!!!!!!!!!
edit: for $300 an hour i'll provide hands off expert assistance having completed this conversion before
