Does anyone know what the processes in paint and interior protection packages on new cars actually involve?

I always thought this stuff was a gimmick, but I've bought a few cars over the years that have had paperwork for full paint and interior protection included, and normally those cars have interiors and paint in REALLY good condition compared to others of the same age without the treatment.

For example, the leather stays softer and looks less worn in a protected car opposed to unprotected, and the outside of a protected car always looks a bit shinier and neater than non protected. I checked out a car yesterday and even the Brembo's and alloys had been protected and you could definitely tell a difference.

I've always wondered what this all involved. Gill's EA had fish oil or grease smeared all over the insides of the panels and pumped in to the sills, and was also protected inside and out. It was in above average condition when he initially got it and is still rust free from memory.

I dunno, could it possibly have something to do with the type of person that orders it is actually going to look after their paint and interior. It could only be a wax or something which isn't really gonna last that long

The paint protection stuff is similar to a wax, but in all reality it's probably closer to another coat of clear. It's usually just put on in pre-delivery.. and it ain't the professors that apply for those jobs haha. I've watched them spray underbody "rust proofing" and apply paint protection years ago at my old dealership, but never found out what was in it. Stuff does work though

I'd be leaning more towards what LUXO_8 said - the type of people that pay for paint protection are the type of people who are nazis about their paint.

its a rort but does have some effect.

problem is you should get a new car detailed and sealed properly.

most that are smart enough to realise the dealer paint protection is a rort should be smart enoough to still go and spend good money on a proper detail, but most dont.

any protection is better than none.

Dealership packages are a complete rip off

Hundreds of dollars for me to wipe some leather cream shit on the seat and give customer a half full 100 mm bottle

Better off buying good quality detailing gear and do it your self

Personally I think it is a killer wax sealant. bit like that old (once a year ) car wax that was on TV. and as it is applied to the freshest of paints, the paint will oxidise less.

Yeah I believe it to be a rort sold to suckers!
I have not been proven otherwise.

Especially as it does wash off over time!
