I have been trying to think which automotive abortion I would give as the answer to this question. But for the life of me I can't think of just one definitive car that epitomises the worst car ever. It needs to suck at all categories usually critiqued when evaluating the merits of an auto mobile.

What are some nominees that you have in mind?

AU series 1 Forte LOL. Nah, off the top of my head, the worst car I've ever been in would have to be a Daewoo Cielo. Apparently it's largely based on an Opel design from the 70s. No go, looks like shit, handles the same and the interior looks like a school project. And they just about kill you with toxicity from the plastic vapours when they've been sitting in the sun. I know there are far worse cars than this though.

sounds like a dam excel... of course ya could always go the old sigma!! man i loved bein in 1 of them when ya turn the aircon on and the car doesnt move from traffic lights

Kia Pregio is teh worstest car I can think of.

It's unbelievably slow (45 year old mitsubishi designed 60kw diesel in a 2 tonne bus). It handles like a wet sponge. It continues to bounce after hitting speed bumps for a good couple of seconds. It doesn't have brakes, you have to slam it down gears and use the diesel engine braking. It's about as rigid as a tin can, and it's noisy as all hell inside the cabin, you have to shut it off when going through the drive through just to hear the person doing your order.

That wouldn't be so bad if it was reliable... but they're not! I know of 4 examples used by techs in our industry. 3 of which SEIZED at ~60,000km with a full service history, the other 1 is mine, and it has 61,000km on it now but it blows ALOT of smoke.

Apparently the oil light comes on, and as you slow down to pull over it seizes and the rear wheels lock up, it's not an idiot light, it's a "you're already fucked" light.

They all pull to the left savagely, even with proper wheel alignments, and under hard cornering the tyres have a habit of coming off the rim and rolling under.

So in conclusion, it's dangerous in many ways, it's slow, handles like custard, it looks shit, and it's unreliable.

It's hard to narrow it down to just one car hey...there were a whole bunch of big capacity front wheel drive V8s built through the 60's and 70's IIRC, they've got to be up there.

+1, They suck. The steering wheel is so low you have to spread your legs right out to drive, then the gearstick almost hits the steering wheel, so you're left in this fvcked up position looking even more retarded, especially when in 5th or reversing. It constanly beeps when you don't have your seatbelt on or leave the keys in the ignition. If you jack one up from one corner, there is that much body flex the doors are hard to open, and they don't close again until the cars back on the ground. Go past a B-Double on a highway in one and there's a fair chance you'll have to pull over to change undies afterwards too.


I laugh at kents who buy them 'cos theyre cheap' but after 2 years end up having to pay more than if they bought a Hi-Ace or SWB Sprinter, then get nothing at all come trade-in time, plus they lose 10 years of their life from the constant stress and scariness of driving one.

Every other car I can think of has at least ONE redeeming factor, but the Preggo vans should be banned from sale.

TATA are about to release the worlds cheapest new car, at around $3500, I can imagine that would make this list

When the Camira was released in 81 Modern Motor (Now MOTOR) magazine gave it their car of the year award. lol.

dont get me wrong here but i find two types of cars a horror to look at (there in no preticular order)
1- cars that look back to front like our beloved ford taurus (i know it shouldent have the blue badge) and jaguars
2- ANYTHING and i MEAN ANYTHING which wears the mark of the commoners..... HOLDEN.... yak we blue bloods truely hate that word unless its with 1_heap of shit 2_ heap of shit and 3_ HEAP of SHIT....

I'm sorry, but what? Are you seriously saying that a) the only bad Ford is a Taurus - and b) that there are no good Holdens?
I will take an LS1 powered commodore/monaro over an injected windsor any day. I will also take an LS2 over a Boss V8 anyday. The new HSV GTO is one hot looking car.

With regards to the original question, on technical merit, well, that's a tough question.
+1 for the Kia Pregio, one of our couriers has one at work and it is a damn awful vehicle.
But I think you have to look towards America for some truly bad cars. FWD V8s, leaf sprung rear axles in sports coupes, etc, etc.

But my ultimate would probably be the humble little Hyundai Excel. Hyundai took a perfectly good starting point, and managed to bugger it up. Engines with lifters that go noisy after 20,000ks, valve stem seals that fail, water pumps that leak, and best of all, front suspension that collapses when you go over bumps. Fantastic work!

my uncle got a brand new VE calais international (company car) shit house to drive, but my god does it look good, 19's black tinted windows, nice lines IMO good looking car. any other VE model looks crap!

It's true about recent model V8's from Ford. Holden/GM/Chevy offerings shit all over them. Not that I would buy either because they are V8's.

The smart car video that I saw had a 160hp Suzuki Hayabusa motor in it... looks like lots of fun.

They look like crap for starters and a few years back we got one as a rental, being the 1.0L manual powerhouse it was it couldn't even spin the wheels properly in dirt.

And for that reason ladies and gentlemen it gets a massive FAIL!

On what basis? Have you ever driven one? The RB30 is a super smooth engine, the VL is by far the most refined of all the VB-VL shape commodores. Ok, so the NA 6 is not very quick, and yes, there are plenty of idiots that own them that think they are. But that is true of a lot of cars. They are so ridiculously easy to turbo, and the 304 V8 was a very good engine.

I'm not saying you aren't allowed to dislike them, but there is no way you can argue that they are bad on technical grounds.
