Dyno tomorrow...lets max out this little turbo

Finally getting on the dyno tomorrow. Car has been running really well (original owner did Process West stage 2 cooler, 100cpi cat, drilled injectors, tune at Elite Automotive) and it spat 280 odd rwkw last november on a 30+ degree day on about 11psi.

Also has a ZF tune which kind of fucks the whole experience. Too harsh. Elite would have continued to get my business however they really didnt seem too interested when I asked about touching up the box tune. Which is a shame, Paul took me for a blat in their blue F6 and that thing is quick.

Tomorrow Clinton from ProFile autosports now gets triple the coin Elite would have for a new fuel pump, 12psi actuator and some dyno time for a complete retune. You unfortunately cant adjust the zf tune independantly, you have to retune the whole shebang when you change tuners.

Hoping to wind as much boost as the little turbo will allow, and praying the valve springs arent going too soft. Am expecting 320rwkw on about 15psi depends on the injectors as well as the springs. I really enjoy the FG turbo, it spools so damn fast and I can chop many higher powered BA/BFs until about 80ks on the street. After that im toast haha.

Once im used to it this time, next round will be ID1000's, full exhaust, valve springs, GTX turbo and as close to 400 as I can get. Hopefully E85 becomes more readily available soon too, would mind getting on that train.

Somewhere in the middle, i want to put 4pot Brembos on the front, upgrade the rears to F6 spec, Bilstein shocks and a trutrac rear end.

Sounds good man, seems like ProFile Autosports are pumping out heaps of 600+rwkw DOHC 4L's so it should be in good hands!

Moving away from Elite is a good idea! The bill and the quote are two completely diferent things there! Should be fun with the new mods!

Should be easily achievable. I would have thought Cooler and Cat would have seem over 300 already?
Mate just had his G6E tuned, all std, just a flash and pumped out 279rwkw from memory.
Next step is the subtle intake muffler restriction and the tuner is keen to see nearly 300?
The age old argument of dyno readings being high/low comes into it then.

Pitlane performance done some testing of the fg fuel pump, the standard item may not be as safe as you think at 300+ take a read on the xr6t forums.

Interesting day.

New fuel pump and actuator went on ok, initial tune went in (zf program back as per factory) and we drove down to the dyno.

ZF was instantly nicer, except it developed a strange tendancy to slip, forget what gear it was in and try upshift/downshift at very light throttle. We assumed it was just learning how to be a ZF again and the problem disappeared on the dyno. Or so we thought.

Once on the dyno, it quickly became apparent no more power would be made. Its falling very flat, very quickly in the top end. Looks like my 85000k valve springs have nothing left to give. Ended up with 288rwkw.

I'll post the dyno printout tomorrow. ZF played up quite a bit on the way home, so going to focus on that first.

Torque drops a lot at 5600rpm, but before that its not that as bad as it looks because of the different scale.

I know power hasn't dropped off, was just putting comparison pics up there.

Fact remains - it should be shitting in well over 300.

On the plus side it should be sick with new springs... even if the old ones weren't totally stuffed (I know they are in this case) new ones wouldn't hurt.

Nice car too! Hmm i need cash for mods! lol

Injectors replaced (thanks Justin)
Now definately require some valve springs.

Not going to spend anymore time or money on it until the weather cools off again next year, I'll save up some cash for valve springs and go from there.

You sure it's the springs? Cars I've seen with soft valve springs usually have a really bodgy curve, it's all over the shop. Definitely not partially melted cat or some kind of exhaust restriction?

Possible - the 100cpi cat is only 12 months old, and its a factory exhaust after that. Apart from a straight through muffler that replaced the factory centre muffler. So unlikely. But possible.

The motor has now done 90,000ks, 30 of which had the boost wound up. I really should be doing the springs anyway as maintenance.

I may, just may end up throwing some sort of exhaust at it when the next round of enthusiasm strikes. In fact I probably will just to eliminate all possibilities.

These little turbos tend to max out at 330rwkw anyway, and i'm not particularly interested in going to a GTX core. How far does one go.

Good point,my ef was having issues similar to the car above, apc did the original owners tune....needless to say the cat melted into a molten ball andthe car was all over the place power wise.
Pulled the inernals out of cat and the difference was worlds apart.

Nice car, hope you achieve your wanted power levels. :)

few little upgrades has this now sitting at 366rwkw @ 19psi, tune was done very quickly and has no timing into it, will be back on dyno next week.

aiming for 400.

You'll probably need a LSD after this round of mods!

indeed I will. It pegs now like all VN's wish they could.

will probably need another ZF

And a tailshaft

maybe F6Garage can assist with some parts lol

Definitely can, got a G6ET with 50,000kms :D

What day next week will it be back on the dyno?

Nice effort so far! loving the black turbo housing too.
Swap you my lsd for your mods?? :-P
Is your auto starting to misbehave?

nah auto loves it for now, but I can see flogged clutches and a snapped input shaft or two in its future.

I have an LSD center kicking around but i'm thinking about going a truetrac

Never updated this, ended up at 373rwkw on 19 psi with factory intake arrangement and 380 same tune with turbo side. Have been meaning to run it up again on ultimate as it didnt takemuch timing on vortex but no point wringing it when E85 is available around the corner. Should go 440rwkw on that stuff.

Bolted coilovers in and bought some brembos too.

Get it on E85, build the ZF, get a tailshaft and get a trutrac fitted - run a ten then leave it alone. 10 second genuine daily driver - a few years ago unheard of

They're such good cars, one down here with similar mods to what you're planning just went 10.8 @ 131mph, looked dead stock from the outside.

ok...i'm a bit late on this thread...being a new turbo owner.

congrats, i've only had my G6E-T 2 month's... and being a V8 guy.... can see the many option's a turbo can bring HP wise

i have noticed that from time to time as well.

it's good watching the face's of cammed commo's and last week a 390+ BF-F6 twist after HWY roll on's ...when you say your only making 290

373 is awesome. I drove a cousins g6e a few weeks ago making very similar numbers. Incredible experience as I hadn't driven a serious turbo car. Easily the nicest looking cars around as well. G6et > F6 or Gt

A mate of mine is running 434rwkw still through an open diff - isnt as horrible as you would expect (except when standing on it when cornering - G6E owners shouldnt be doing such activities on the way to the bowls club lol). The MTA turbo I bolted on spools exactly the same as the little turbo did - so happy with it.
