AU1 FAIRMONT VS AU111 FORTE?

I'm back in the car market and a local car yard has these two cars, both same price, and similar Kay's.
mont is white, and very stock. The forte is that dark blue and has ugly 17s on it. Other than that it's stock.

I'm after opinions on whether the better interior of the fairnont is worth having over the better brakes of the forte?

I'm not saying I'm going to buy either, I have a ( not very) shortlist of about 12 cars at the moment.

If it makes a difference james i can get you a cheap s2 up grade for the brakes.

Changing the brakes on the au1 to au2+ does not cost much and is easy to do.
Changing the interior of the forte to fairmont depending on if you go the whole lot , dash electric windows etc will probably cost more and more time than the brakes.
the mont will probably hold value a bit better than the forte.

Thanks guys. Resale isn't a concern. Hell even the brakes probably don't really matter that much, its just going to be a daily.

But to upgrade to series 2/3 brakes is it just a complete upright swap or is the booster different as well?

The booster is different. But you can still run the au1 booster. Pedal feel is not ideal. You have to drill and angle the au2 booster to get it in. Read troymans thread about his au1 fairmont good write up in that about the brake upgrade.

S2upgrade apart from drilling new holes for booster and triming it to fit plus the extra holes for the swaybar mounts is pretty much a straight bolt up mate.

How much worse are the s1 brakes? Would I even notice a difference?

Think e-series

Other than being hard to upgrade and prone to warping I had no issues with my old efs brakes.
But I'm guess a quicker and heavier au would work them a bit harder.

I more meant that they're single piston brakes an same size rotors as eseries. Almost identical except au have a hub and floating disc. I wasn't sure if you knew what au1's had is all. If you don't plan to push the car they will be fine

All good, I've never looked at au1 brakes so I didn't know what they were, other than similar to e series.

Yes james you will notice a difference between s1 & s2 brakes.
With s2 brakes you get much better pedal feel, stop quicker and less prone to warping.
Its worth the time and money to do it imo.
I think i still have some of the bits from your old au.

also dont just look at it as upgrading to s2 brakes,
you can go and directly bolt up ba/bf brakes which are bigger than au2..
