Waterless coolants ??

Dose anyone know anything about waterless coolant it's meant to be really good ebay has some but it's about $140 for 5l and I need like 7l
So tell me what you know about it

When using it you have to flush the whole cooling system a couple of times to get rid of any water, the waterless stuff does not compress so there is no pressure in the system, so if your car had been running up to temp you could just take the cap off and it would do nothing. Also unlike water based coolants which are meant to be changed regularly the waterless has a lot of anti corrosive additives which means apparently it never has to be changed and the cooling system won't rust and the liquid won't separate like water based coolant will.

I hadn't heard of this so I just did a bit of reading.

It claims to improve fuel consumption, but the downside - aside from having to flush out all water beforehand - is increased engine temperatures. I expect this would cause other engine bay components, like radiators and hoses, to have a shorter service life. This would make the 'lifetime' claim very theoretical.

Yer thanks I did a bit of looking but I font know if I can use it if I have gas and what if I do my head will it kill my motor so I think I'm going 2 wait for people 2 start ushering it a lot be for I do

Consider the total volume of your cooling system (around 15~17l total inc heater core, radiator, block and hoses) and work out cost vs doing a coolant flush every xxkm, and refill after replacement of parts like water pump, radiator, hoses, heater core and anything else. Most coolants claim to last between 50,000km and 100,000km. There isn't too much wrong with engine running hotter than normal, unless it is significantly hotter, a slight temp increase wont do much damage to parts.

It has been around for a while, Burson's was selling it when I was working there, I don't recall ever selling any of it in 18 months I was there at all. If the price is similar to what you were saying ($140/5l) then it will cost you approx $420 to fill the cooling system (more when you add the extra for the lines to the gas converter) vs ~$20 for a bottle of coolant (I use Tectaloy Gold 1l bottle) which covers me til I replace something in the cooling system and I put more in.

I cant see the cost being worthwhile short or long term for your average daily driver. Each to their own though.

As you say the heat may shorten the life of other components, the fact that is does not build up pressure may lengthen the life of them.
So is a bit of a tricky one.

I would say the anti freeze/anti boil qualities of coolant are largely a waste of time in a daily driver. So the way to go is to just fill your system with water & just add some anti corrosion mix. cheap and works good.
