ok so my bank just approved a loan, first thing on the list is turning the beast to a manual, followed by a full exhaust starting at the extractors and finishing at the tip. question is where is a good place in SA to install a manual gear box, i don't have the knowledge or time to do it my self, i know what i want, but its tricky finding a decent place to install it for you, the only quote i have so for is for 1650 installed, im sure i can do better than that, can people let me know here they got it done ( maybe where they work) or places they know off

I'm gonna say do it yourself,
Get a EA conversion kit for under $500 and set about doing it. Add in the stuff you may want to replace/upgrade/require like the clutch/ flywheel and Smartlocked ecu and you wouldn't have to spend over $1000 for all of it.
IMHO.

i dont have the knollage or the time to do this my self, i have looked at doing it my self, and i probably could do it, but would take WAY to long, and i need my car, looks like ill be getting a bit of work done to my car there they do awesome prices, i was talking to him about a balancing, blasting the extractors and shit, tickford ported heads and a fair bit more for around 3.5k, REALLY good price, the last car he did was an EL and it was getting 220 at the wheels, but it got into an accident
*EDIT
just to let you all know whats happening with my ride, Monday my car is getting extractors, 2 1/2 inch exhaust and a hot dog. should be a nice addition. then Tuesday its getting the oil leeks fixed up new air filter flushing the engine oil. and a bit over a week and it will be a manual. getting the gas tuned ( its playing up abit on take off and around corners when i put my foot down) and the air con fixed at the same time. 2 days ago i got another sub after i killed the last one. i got a 7" pioneer dvd player coming soon which will replace the 6 stacker im running now. oh and depending on how my money holds up might look into getting some new wheels ( i really hate the stock Fairmont alloys)

Yeah sure, becuase everyone is equipped to change a transmission at home???
Sometimes it's better to have work done professionally with the right tools and knowledge.
Seems you have a fitting username... and if you ever went to school you'd know how to spell CHEQUE.

Sometimes its better to invest in tools to be able to do it yourself. The quotes you are getting are very pricey for what is a relatively simple job. Not to mention the Auto to Manaul conversion guide has been around since Jesus was a boy.
