What would you do?

Hi

I recently had an intercooler + piping fitted to my car by a well revered exhaust shop. In the process, they relocated my transmission cooler and bent the oil feed lines 180c and placed the trans cooler where it got little to no air. The result was seriously hot transmission, ruptured hose and all my transmission oil being dumped while driving. If I didn't see the pool of oil i'd have been up for a new box.

To repair this it cost $350. Should I call the place and tell them the potential damage and expenses this caused?

Wouldn't your first port of call be to actually speak with them before posting on a forum?

It falls under general discussion with the point being what would you do i.e would you call them or waste of time :)

For $350 I presume you have paid someone to fix it. You should have talked them before you paid someone else, they probably would have done it for free or at least cost.

$350 for a hose clamp, hose and oil?

You should have moved the trans cooler out of the way before they did the intercooler.

I would have rung the fitter first to go over it. Right now he won't have a bar of it because someone else has touched it.

Cheers

I gathered that he needed another cooler as it split a solid line?

Cheers

Talk to them, but as others have said, someone else fixed it, don't like your chances of getting reimbursed. You should have spoken to the guys that did the cooler when you found the problem, and they would have been liable for the damages.

Bit late now - should have had the car towed back to them so they could see first hand what happened.

At the moment it's all just 'this happened and they said that this was dodgy and these other people did this' etc. Bit hard to get anyone to agree to anything, as they'll probably just say you broke it yourself.

And the important thing is to inspect the work when you pick the car up, so if anything questionable is discovered it can be discussed on the spot - and that way if any issues arise thereafter you can say it was brought up when you picked the car up ..

What were you doing at the time ?
What type of hose was it ? where did it burst ?

i think he is implying that one of the lines was bent and crushed so that no fluid or at least less fluid was flowing through the cooler.

either way you got ass raped for the repair.
front wheel drive cars are piss easy to do tranny lines on.
dont understand how people get taken for a ride like this...

I was driving very normally, the transmission lines were hot enough to boil up the radiator. It was just an original rubber hose and split just near the joiner. Basically I needed it fixed and they are really slow and unreliable. I'm heaps disappointed in the end.. they said it'd be find where it is. Worst part is I have to give them more cash to make more piping for me as they're literally around the corner.

Misk thats possible as it was bent to a stressful angle when it needed to be straight. All in all I lost over 3 liters of trans oil and my poor mrs had to drive the thing to the mechanic while i was at work lol..
