Melbourne Motor Show Cancelled

Haven't been for a few years, but always found it to be pretty interesting (but expensive). I always figured it was expensive to get in because you were basically paying for the manufacturers to turn up.

Turns out the organisers charge the manufacturers heaps to display also.

In 2008 Mercedes-Benz rented the Mount Panorama race circuit for an entire week for less than it would cost to exhibit at the Sydney show. It invited VIP guests for track test drives and says it sold more cars than it would have done at the motor show.


What the fking ****? Where is all the money going? Surely Jeffs shed isn't that expensive to rent.

I'm looking at an invoice now. 6 days with catering and shit. Lots of meeting rooms and its $495k.

That sucks, Me & Dad use to go every year. Researching your cars online isn't the same as seeing it up close and sitting in it.

It was already bi-annual wasn't it? Doesn't bother me, I went to the Syd one last year while on a layover. Perks of da jawb brah.

Bit of a pity for the Australian car industry - bet Holden would love the opportunity to have promoted VF there.
