Hey dudes,
Have many of you done much towing (car trailer) with an EF/EL Falcon 6?
Just bought a mint EL Fairmont sedan thats got a HD towbar and thinking about using it to get to Heathcote in June.
Any feedback would be great.
I believe it had the big tow pack out've the factory.

Im sure it'll use a bit've fuel tho.

Cheers.

I'm sure it'd be fine, my v6 ute has the same power as a el 6 and it tows beautifully. Distribute the weight correctly on the trailer and you'll have no dramas.

Might just want to make sure the springs and shocks are in good nick, and as said weight distribution n the trailer and you should be right.

What's the max weight you can pull with a falcon though? Is it legal?

Only thing I would doubt is the brakes, I'd want them on the trailer with an electronic brake controller in car.

I've done heaps of towing, and falcons are great.

The h/d tow bar kits from factory are 1200kg unbraked and 2000kg braked. Don't use 4th if its an auto and if it hasn't got a external oil cooler for the auto your asking for dramas.

When loading the car on the trailer, make sure you have it so the trailer is pushing the suspension of your car down around 1". Too much or too less will end tears.

Best car I've ever towed with was my old ranger, towed everything like a champ and still cruised on 110 easily lol, even going up steep hills.

Miss my ranger :(

Cheers guys.
Thought 2300kg braked was the capacity on the big tow bars?
Think SA laws are abit more relaxed here.

So the list is
bigger trans cooler
rear shocks/springs
don't use overdrive

Gonna give it a test run locally before I do the long haul to Heathcote.

Done heaps with an AU sedan and XG.

Load it right, don't rush it, drive smoothly. They do it really easily and stable too. I've never done it with standard suspension though.

Big trans cooler keeps it a lot happier.

Make sure the cooling system is perfect too.

Also take what you need to change a trailer wheel.

My EB Fairmont never had issues, that had the factory external cooler on it. My ED had no issues either, and that was manual. I think it comes down to loading it right as NUT pointed out too. I never had issues with braking and didn't have an electronic brake controller in either car.
