Unfortunately we lost a battle with the QLD government and their ridiculous legislation. That was always gunna happen because, honestly, Queensland, like much of greater Adelaide, still go by the Juilian and not the Gregorian calendar, meaning, they live in 1953.

Sniping aside, what I never saw in any of the debating was actual value added data. All I saw was anecdotal evidence that young drivers are over represented in crash stats. Well did anyone ever think to tell them that it because young people drive more, and are on the road at high risk times? Does it also mean that at 49, with a 650 hp car, that I am fine? I can't be a hoon cause I'm not young?

What I never heard mentioned, either, was any info from the coal face. Someone with a background like mine who actually went to prangs and literally scraped idiots off the road. Here's a stat for you.

I never investigated a collision that was directly caused by a roadworthy fault in a car. I never investigated a collision that involved a custom modified, properly built car. Yeah I did prangs involving modified cars, and prangs involving so called Hoon behaviour. Of 350 prangs over 8 years, these represtened about 1% of what I attended.

That's a value added stat for you.

My opinion as an ex collision investigator? Road Safety doesn't work. And No hoon law or anti hoon law is gunna make a spot of difference to any road toll other than line the pockets of num nut politicians who in affect and just introduced a new tax so they don't have to spend as much time saving money for proper causes.

as a tow truck operator, i have to agree that i very rarely attend any collisions involving modified cars... i think i can count the number of highly modded cars on 1 hand..

drunk / drugged idiots and carelessness/innatentiveness make up the majority... in stock standard cars

I havn't had a chance to read up on this, but what was the law that was passed??

They have taken away the court system for impounds and defects.

So basicly, you screech your Tyres around a corner, bang 90days impound. It's now down to cops discretion.

Also, have a defect which a cop doesn't agree with, bang impound 90 days.

Also, 3 strike rule is gone, it's now 90 days then crushed/sold.

Driving a vehicle unreg or anythig like that results in 90 impound.

Some poeple may judge that as fair and you "shouldn't do the wrong thing" but cases like one I received recently is why the court system is a good idea.

My rego was due on the 23rd (iirc) of December last year. So anyway, I paid the rego on the 23rd and took a screen shot of the receipt with my phone (as I used my phone to pay it).

Christmas Eve myself, my mrs, Rollin and shufflin went for a bit a drive to look at Christmas lights. We were driving normally when a cop car raced up behind me and put the party lights on.

I didnt mind, so being on a main road I took the next left and pulled over. Cop walks up and starts screaming at me for not pulling over immediately and said "if we out our lights on you stop" (which isn't true, you pull over where you feel is safe, not them.

I didnt argue, I kept being nice and agreed with him. He then asked why I was driving an unregistered vehicle. I told him I had paid it yesterday and I can show him the receipt if needed. I showed him the receipt and long story short they said they were going to impound my car and send me to court for drivin an unreg car.

I kept my cool and played nice, and rang a friend/cop. He said that they can't impound my car or even make me tow it, they have to give me a permit to move an unreg vehicle and he also said to tell them to get fucked because I have a receipt.

I argued, no go. They did give me a permit to drive him though (with a summons to court on my second week of my new job might I add)

2 days later that friend (let's call him joe) called me up and told me to send a letter to prosecutions asking for the evidence against me for my case. Joe then listened to the voice recordings and figured out the 2 cops where fucken retarded and had the whole thing dropped before it went to court.

Joe is a mad dude.

So, now with the new laws I would have had my car impounded, caught a taxi home, had to fight bullshit with cops to get the case dropped, get my car back without any impound/towing fees and somehow get the money back for a cab ride I shouldnt have to take.

Funny thing though, get busted drink driving and your car doesn't get impounded and you allowed to drive again 48 later up until your court date.

The system works!!

Each story I read like this ads more rage.

I had better stop putting semi slicks on the back of my car,they screech real easy.
Depends on what sort of "joe" you get.
I had my 24 yr old son drive out of harrys diner on a thursday night with me in the white knucle seat.
I told him not to do anything stupid on the way over there....he was good.
But by the time we left and his brain was full long legs,perky breasts and the sweet seductive smell of horsepower in the air...his brain went to the right foot in a testosterone fuelled moment of "**** it".
He proceeded to pull out too the right ,as soon as it was clear ,he pegged it sideways around the island "crowd going spastic" then proceeded to smoke both rears all the way over the rise to the lights in top gear.
I just went quiet and looked at him,then the disco lights started,The "joe" started with "why were your rear tyres billowing with smoke ? any particular reason"
My son replied "No officer,just showing off for the crowd" Well he was honest lol
Then had a female "jane " In a black ute pull up and tell the officer dealing with us... And I quote "Impound the fucken thing!"
My young bloke looked at me and layed his head downward and said "oh Sorry dad".
The "joe" was stunned when he realised it was my car and my son was the driver.
The officer then said,Thank you for not giving me the run around and bullshit,you may take the vehicle home and I will issue you with a $380 fine for exssesive noise.
One last warning when he issued the notice and home.

So sometimes you may get the right "joe" or "jane" Or other days you may get the tow.
I still see the law as being there for the worst kind of dipshit drivers that have zero respect,no matter what or where they drive.
