My 5.0 has a shimmy and a shake at idle

Hi,

I have a stock EL 5.0, extractors, exhaust and K&N panel. No CAM or headwork. Completely unopened motor.

When you drive the car it goes great, smooth, makes the right noises etc.

At idle, there is a bit of a shimmy and a shake?? It seems like there is almost a miss. But when driving its fine.. It idles at about 750rpm. Plugs and leads are all new, injectors clean, air filter is clean.

I have reset idle by pulling off the plug in front of throttle body, disconnecting the battery, put it all back together and the shimmy and the shake is back.

Any ideas?

How bad are we talking here? If it's minimal don't worry about it.

Possibly a vac leak, check ya vac lines.
Mine was the same.

Try cleaning out your maf (carefully).
It could also be your fuel filter (when was it last replaced?).
Dirty injectors, or even a plug wire not on properly.
Also, try taking off the IAC on the side of the throttle body. Its two bolts from memory. Its where the TPS is.
You can buy throttle body clean to clean any gunk out of here and the throttle body (take intake hose off). I always just use a clean rag to get rid of any buildup.
K&N filters can really make in here build up with oily crap.

Ahh yes, I missed the K&N bit. Oiled filter immediately before the MAF hotwire can be bad for the MAF. That's why I stick with paper :)
