Rear ended by Truck on Westgate = Dead V8 Ef Wagon

Well, after a few years of happy daily work, my V8 Ef wagon is dead.
I was happily making my way to work the other week along the Westgate, past Montague st towards the tunnel, when all the traffic (and me too!!) came to an stop.
Now when I say all the traffic, I mean all the traffic except for the bloke in the semi behind me.
I saw him coming and braced myself off the pedal and ... BANG!! Its off to the hospital in an ambo I go.

I must say that it was a bloody good impact and I was very lucky as it could've been alot worse.
I was released from hospital after 3 days with whiplash and a very stiff and sore lower back. I am still on TAC compo but hoping to get back to light duties soon.

As you can see, most of the damage is at the rear and I as I had my feet hard on the brakes and I had also stopped a good 6 feet short of the van infront, the damage to the front of the wagon is confined to a towball thru the bar and into the trans cooler.
The doors still open and close but require a fair bit of effort to do so.
All this contributed to it being declared a write-off by the assessor.
Happily, the trucks insurance has admitted fault and I am expecting a cheque in the mail this week. I retained ownership of the wagon because they were very generous and offered me $75 for it!!! I declined their offer and had it towed home.

Now the big question is... What to get for a new daily??
Do I get another straight/clean EF wagon and donate my running gear or do I go for a BA wagon and start researching turbo conversions.... Hmmmm...

I would go newer. I sold my EF V8 wagon not long ago. We have just bought a series 3 AU wagon and I dont think I will go a ef/el again. Its so quiet and so much more refined. If I was going to make the jump to B series I would wait until i can afford a good BF3.

sucks that your wagon died, but at least you are relatively ok. A newer car will always be nicer, but it comes down to individual preference at the end of the day. Hope you don't have lasting injuries from the accident

Find a neat and straight EF and swap everything over. Shame to see one less EF v8 Wagon.

As said, go newer!

After my accident with the EF written off, im in an AU3, and its just an all round better car to drive in relatively standard form.

Ultra reliable, even with 330,000kms on it and pulling 700km a week for the last year with me driving it

Thanks for the feedback boys, helps alot.

I've been off work now since the accident and have spent ages researching a new wagon. Everything from cheap Efs for a swap over of my running gear, to manual EB wagons, to ex-taxi BA's primed for turbo conversions.
Too many options that look great are racing around my head. I'll have to make a choice this weekend and stick with it.

I'll keep you posted... :drinks2:

Defiantly go a newer wagon.
As said their a lot more reliable and to date have far better safety features.
Newer will be better :)

Cheers

Or you could get an XH Ute.
I don't really know anything about them but you could well use it for work, have a similar appearance up front and perhaps some compatibility in parts from your old wagon.

Sorry to hear this.

Yeah, I would love a ute but need the rear seats for when I taxi the kids around to their various sporting events.

Had the OUT THERE idea to just get another Ef wagon and use my wreck as a mock up car to add boost to my 5.0
Thoughts???

It sucks when they don't pull their end up, how have you come up after all said and done?

Yeah, I've been giving them a hard time on the phone everyday hoping to speed the process up.

I'm getting much better thanks. Still sore in the lower back but the MRI results were all positive, just swelling mainly, so back to work on light duties soon, fingers crossed.

that has been advertised on the failbook Ford buy, swap, sell for a while, took it off a while ago if I recall too. I had a look at the ad too, and the car looks alright and fairly decent condition. Few AU V8 Fairmont wagons about on ebay and other sites too, bit more than I want to spend on a parts car. Some even have leather in them, makes me want to spend a bit extra (except for having the kids in the car)

Yeah, its been on gumtree too for ages. They wanted $3500 for it. Its got 8h to go and is 1 bid @ $2k...

I would be wrapped with a V8 wagon for a daily... without having to do a conversion like last time...
