Custom cold air intake

Gday
Just thought I'd throw this one out there. I'm sure it's been discussed at length before but has anyone managed to make their own cold air intake. I've got an EF falcon 5.0 and I've done a few mods to the engine (heads and inlet manifold plus exhaust) but I'm still using the stock air box and cold air intake with just a K&N filter. Is there really much gain in getting a bigger cold air intake and can you just make one?

Cheers

Mark

Very easy to make.

Work out how you want to run it.
Go to a truck spare parts supplier and by 3 inch pipes and rubber bends and then make the inlet piping.
(Prob 1 90deg rubber bend, 1 45 deg rubber bend and two short pieces of stright pipe)
You can also get these from supercheap and use aluminimum piping.
Then hang pod of the end behing the headlight.

The next step is to make the shield that surrounds the pod and sepparates it from the engine and radiator.

Thanks for that mate, Sound like a good idea. I think I've seen pics of this done somewhere. With that setup tho, how would I go about channelling cold air from outside the car into this area?
Is it possible and more-so legal to fit a small bonnet scoop over this area?

A fair bit of air actually works its way past the headlights and into the area around the airbox.

I wouldn't do anything to the bonnet, its unnecessary
