Hi all,

I may be picking up a 1991 EA Fairmont which has just been flood damaged. From what I can tell the only parts damaged was the computers and interior. (Carpet and seats I can replace)

The body is perfect, and I know the history of the car.

How do you think a BA Turbo motor + ZF 6 speed auto would go in it? I know it can be done, albeit with a lot of work.

Do you know of any around and how they managed it? From what I have heard most work is needed on the sump to make it fit over the steering rack (?).

EDIT: My bad, will have to get a wrecked BF XR6 to use, as BA only has 4 spd auto

go in the In The Build area, and Revhead_88 and Dansedgli have build threads on a BA powered EA and BA Powered ED. ZF 6 speed will take a hell of a lot of effort, and wiring... good luck with it all

I would be measuring the size of the box before doing anything. Apparently its massive so the trans tunnel might need modding.

Other than that, cut the front crossmember. Move it forward about 2cms and bobs your uncle. The hard part will be wiring and getting it all to run.

I checked out the "In the Build" area and found a few ideas floating around.

Good to hear that it is as simple as cutting the crossmember, as I though I may have to add a bonnet hump or somthing to cover the cam cover! Hope to have it totally stock on the outside, so it will be an absolute sleeper.

With the transmission, maybe it would be easier to convert the car to manual and use a BA 6 speed box?

To make the job easier, I am thinking of buying a written off XR6T or F6 that isn't mechanically damged, as I have heard that it is pretty hard to get the engine to work by itself without all the other sensors and stuff like ABS, traction control and EBD.

I wonder if it would be ridiculously hard to rewire the EA with all the wiring and sensors from the BF? It probably would take a bit to get all the guages working, but then I could have ABS, etc.

Maybe I am totally out of my head thinking of all this stuff, but I guess all projects start with a dream

the more you put in from a BA/BF the easier it'll be.
main issues i can see are sensors from the wheels.

I guess the wheels/brake rotors have a small pattern/holes/notches on them for the ABS to sense wheel speed?

I will be putting a T5 out of an BA XR6T into my XF. Some problem(s) I have encountered which may affect you are the length of the box compared with X/E series boxes and getting a signal for the speedo. Other problems I am having will not apply because you are using a B series engine whereas I am using an E series engine.

I have one solution which will hopefully kill two birds. Remove the output shaft, machine it down to the same size as in the the X/E series T5 and fit the shorter extension housing.

I hope this helps you understand some problems you may encounter unexpectedly.
