Qustions About Tax??

Postby Kaddis » March 5th, 2008, 6:18 pm

I'm thinking of getting my heavy rigid licence because work might be getting a bigger truck and tho i would only need a light or medium i would like the go heavy, but my question is if i do the course/test could i claim the $750odd on tax?

Also wanting to get my forklift licence could i claim this as well?

Thanks

You prolly could, you can claim training if its 75% related to your work.

Australian Government Website wrote:Drivers licence

You cannot claim a deduction for the cost of getting or renewing your drivers licence as it is a private expense.

If you require an endorsed licence for your work, you can claim a deduction for the cost of a premium you paid for an endorsed licence – that is, the amount above the standard licence fee.

Sooooo that means only the renewal?

AFAIK you can, any out of pocket expence relating to work can be claimed back.

Well I claim everyone of mine.

I'd go as far as getting a MC after you have had your HR for 12 months and are still in the buisiness.
This will not limit you in the future and pays bigger buck's!

Yep cause it's 'education' related to your work you can claim for it. However you might not be able to claim the full amount, probably only a certain percentage. But that's better than nothing.

i had a chat to a few drivers who have the HR and HC ticket, they said, if the company ask's you to get it then you can claim it. but if you do it out of your own free will then no. but correct me if i am wrong.

Well i dont NEED to get it as work has a truck driver but if he has a day off im usually the one to drive it. Can't i just say i NEED it?

I emailed Paul Mont Driving School about course's and stuff and they said it is claimable but what i want to know if how much % i can claim because if i can claim 50-70%+ ill get it.

I think i'll have to chat to the accountant...
