Old news now, but Toyota are gone too.

VIC & SA are going to be a bad place to be economically come 2017.

Pisses me off (I won't start ranting or I won't stop).

It's us enthusiasts that will keep a (very) small percentage of those people employed afterwards.

It was inevitable really.

As soon as Ford and Holden announced their fates it was only a matter of time.

All manufactoring in Australia itself is struggling big time.

Yep, inevitable unfortunately. Doesn't make it any better though :(

Here's some ramblings from some random on FB:

i say good if they had n brains holden toyota, n ford y did'nt they build car's that the average Australian wanted 2 by. With toyota's case there lucky because we will now get car's like the chaser, aristo n many more jap inport's which should have been here year's ago really toyota who wanted a V6 front wheel drive when the 2jz is a way better motor anyway. With holden & ford they needed 2 bring back car's like cortina's, escort's carpri's n holden should have brought back the gemini and torana 2 compete with the small car market i have been waiting 2 hear this new's in years 2 tell u the truth

Ford and Holden have been behind the European market for years.

Bringing back old Aussie icon cars was never going to solve there problems.

Like the mini cooper, Volkswagon Beetle or even the Camero all these cars were reproduced around the old shape cars into a modern design car.

Holden tried it with the torana EPIC FAIL!!!

Unfortunately, I think the job market is going to go to shit a long way before 2017. Ford have cut production a shitload since their announcement. Suppliers I know are already bumping prices on contracts they've held -- the low volumes mean margin is a big problem. That's the ones who've been able to stay afloat, there are many stories of shops shutting up.

Vic is going to get hit a lot harder than SA, particularly given our manufacturing base and also the SPC shemozzle. Unemployment is already a massive problem around Shepperton.

Be interesting to see what happens with the local aftermarket guys - I guess they will have a long tail and good opportunity to produce components for imported vehicles.

How the fucking mongs who are saying "good riddance" think they will be able to afford their imported Volkswagen when an entire industry is crushed is beyond my comprehension! Whether you like the product or not, you must realise that these companies and their supply chain kept a lot of skilled and non-skilled people employed for a generation or two. Not everyone can be an innovator and not everyone has transferable skills. They'll be living off your tax dollars either way!

People are fucking stupid. Some of the comments on social media just defy any sort of logic what so ever.

Simplified :D

No matter how many times it is written/aired that it's not just the guys at Ford/Holden/Toyota that will suffer, it won't be heard because that would mean changing their opinion, and you can't do that!
