BA 5 speed manual strength? and mods...

Postby harbo11 » May 19th, 2014, 9:28 pm

Im looking for some knowledge on the strength of the BA 5 speed manual? Ive done a lil research on the net and found some info but not much. Does anyone have any actual experience of how strong the 5 speed is? Of course I know it depends how drive it but im looking for around 300rwkw out of my BA XR6 TURBO, im leaning towards that the box wont hold!?
Valve springs have just been fitted with intercooler and injectors and maybe exhaust to come.

It will go bang, specially with the weight of a BA.

Put a 6 speed in mate. I think Rollin on here has one for sale.

You buy! You buy!!!

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

300rwkw will hold for a while but it will be a time bomb and youl loose every race due to gentle shifts into third. A mates ba 412rwhp lasted a year and he is an outright hoon but always shifted gently to 3rd before bring boost back on.

Shifting isn't the problem mate, third gear cog just doesn't have enough strength to hold on with that massive torque increase going through it. I've seen lil regy roll on the throttle In third and bang, third gear exits the building.
You could rebuild it with an astro gear set but a 6 speed t56 like the one rollin has for sale would be the most obvious decision.

Actually the problem is the case flexing as well as the weak gear. If you rush 3rd and pop clutch out to get a quick change your far more likely to pop the box. Im talking 400rwhp not 540

I rolled onto the throttle in 3rd with about 220rwkw and blew a t5.

One of my friends had a lightly modded na EL and blew third.

Some boxes are magic and hold a bit more for a bit longer, but you're much better off selling it to someone before it blows up then throwing it in the bin after it blows up....

Our burnout drift car had 300rwhp and I used to do 3rd clutch pops from a standstill all the time, clutching in 25+ times in drift sessions (each session) and never showed a signs of breaking..

Put the box into my ea which ran a 14.8 (lol) and popped it in three weeks.
