Engine swap check list

Postby rtjones90 » June 23rd, 2014, 3:33 pm

Hey everyone,
pretty soon i'm doing an engine swap in my 96 el xr6,
Just doing a run through of stuff i need and what i need to get or have missed already,
any help would be appreciated.
the engine i am swapping over is worked, (ported and polished tickford head, bigger cam gear etc)
while i'm swapping engines i'm taking out the gas system aswell.
what i know i need to buy:
- new overflow tank as the one i have is dirty as hell + new coolant
- new spark plugs & spark leads ( heard eagle 9mm is good?)
- new gaskets for exhaust/ headers & intake manifold ( the new engine already has a multi layered steel head gasket so don't need to worry about that)
- new heater tap
- new oil (what do you guys recommend?)
- xtreme button clutch ( is already manuel so might as well put new one in at the same time)
- j3 chip and tune

i'm not very experienced with cars atm and have mates helping me to do the swap, but i am slowly learning.
like i said earlier, any help would be appreciated
cheers

Sump gasket while its out.

Weld on a speedflow fitting for a turbo drain and put a cap on it for later.

Welsh plugs might be an idea if they are old. Easy to do while the engine is out, not so easy while it's in.
