Most neglected car that you know of?!

Postby private9 » March 29th, 2008, 10:40 pm

I always love hearing stories about cars going unserviced forever, and nothing ever being fixed.

Most I've heard of is 180,000kms without ever seeing a service.

I'm sure there's better out there though, so share your story!

My sisters Holden Vectra, she just drives it and that is all. Time bomb waiting to happen. Only thing to go wrong so far was coil packs and leads @ $700 odd done by Holden. I fixed a leaking P/S line on it once and I WILL NEVER TOUCH THE CAR EVAR AGAIN!

Also my mums VS Berlina, aside from the fact it is a shit heap she also just drives it until something goes wrong. I changed the oil and filter on it every 10,000 km's up untill recently, but have resigned from ever touching this car again, waiting for the auto to go bang some time this year. I will laugh hard when it does.

Oh and my Dads BF, lucky it's a company car and is serviced by ford at intervals, because it's been washed about 3 times in 140,000 km's, has rust, and backfires and stalls all the time.

I look out for number 1 these days. :D

oh and two of the cars leak oil pretty bad.

Dad had a manual BA XT company car in black that was neglected somewhat. When he took it in for it's first service (2500km?) the guy reportedly plugged a computer in and said "wow, someones been bouncing this off the rev limiter quite a lot haven't they!!!" It got washed once in 50,000km (to sell it), and he used to use it to back his boat into the salt water/surf, often so water was coming in the rear doors. "Not my car" was the justification for not washing it afterwards. Kent.

Despite coming from Gippsland, I don't have too many stories of neglect, apart from paddock bashers. (I've taken my EB paddock bashing when it was on superlows if that counts? Although that's abuse, not neglect)

Abuse is good. I used to have a front wheel drive Alfa and because it was so unreliable I only drove it every week or so. When I did, I'd hop in it while parked out the front, full lock it to take off, put it in first, clutch in, accelarator to the floor, then I'd start it, as soon as valve bounce set in at around 7200 or so, then I'd side step the clutch.

My intention was to blow a drive shaft or cv's, but it never hapenned. Did smash the gearbox a few times though! I only did around 10,000kms in that car, but every one of them was total abuse.

10 years later, that POS is still getting around with the same engine and driveline!

My EA didn't have an oil change in the last 40,000kms before I killed it. It got "not my car" treatment even though I owned it.

I can't wait to get another shitter.

ROFL that's epic. I want to buy a shitty daily next year just so I can do stuff like that to it. I'm beginning to wish I never sold my AE92 manual 'rolla :geek:

As for abused/neglected cars, one of my mates has a completely fucked Telstar - rusted panels, dodgy transmission, none of the door locks work (as in you can only enter through one door, and use that to open the driver's door), etc. His girlfriend also ruined her 121 a couple of months ago. She kept driving it when it overheated even though we told her over the phone to pull over and wait for us. She got a mechanic to look at it later and apparently the head was cracked

Cousin of mine had a Telstar, sounds the same as your mates! Only working entrance was the hatch, and he entered and exited that way for 2 years!!

Shitty dailys absolutely rule. Car torture is much more fun than going fast to me. That reminds me that I drove a 95 AE101 corolla 1.6 auto for 5 years. I hated the thing, and tried everything I could to make the thing blow so I could get a new car. EVERY single day it would cop rev limiter neutral bangers.
I used to drive 80kms each way for work and almost every day on the way home, I'd drive home on the freeway in second pretty much the whole way. From memory it was a bit over 6000 rpm, and by the time I got home the exhaust manifold would be glowing! Managed to melt bits of carpet from the exhaust getting so hot, but never blew it!

Short of draining the fluids, I literally tried everything I could to blow a gearbox or engine, but in the end I gave up and sold it with over 300k on the clock, and it was still running well. Because it looked in good nick and had rims and other gay crap, I even got good money for it too!

My own 1985 Telstar is probably the most neglected that I know of, i've had it for almost 2 years now and i've never changed anything on it except a set of second hand leads and tyres because of bald spots which were there from when I done a few laps of a car park with the handbrake on...got pretty sideways :D

We also had a RA60 Celica manual which was a paddock basher, we showed that thing no mercy at all, used to have it at redline while the temp was in the red and the amount of clutch dumps that thing copped wasn't even funny, i'm suprised it held up! I sold it to some of my mates who thrashed it even more than I did.

LOL I got my AE92 sideways into a ditch once... was probably doing about 10km/h at the time.

Funniest "drag" I ever had was my 1994 Corolla against a mate's 1986 Pulsar. Both cars had five people in them.

Max speed of the drag would have been about 80ish km/h (speed limit, took about 14 seconds to get to it). I got the wheels chirping off the line due to bulk power from the twin-cam, and STILL spanked him.

Crap now I really want a shitter. I miss rev limiter N-bombs, touch parking everywhere and pulling the handbrake on whenever you feel like it. Bounced the EA off armcos a few times, that's on youtube still I think. Welded diff was fun but removed any chance of a standstill, even tried WOT nosed against a wall and got nothing. One headlight lens was held together with packing tape after I touch parked into a tree a bit too hard. Every shitter needs numbers on the doors. The confederate flag on the roof might of been excessive though.

I drove it home from Boronia to Dingley in the red most of the way. Popped a radiator hose at the top of FTG road in Wheelers Hill. Made it back with some rapid cooling whenever it stalled. Became a mission to see how many idiot lights we could get on at once. Coolant level, water temp and oil pressure in the end. Didn't run too well after that though.

MRDOSE in it's FBF500 form was proper fukked.

Leaked every single different fluid that was in it - including brake fluid. Wasn't serviced properly for over 2 years at the point when I got it and yeah generally run down.

Was kept clean and stuff otherwise though.

Haha i had a 91 holden apollo (camry rebadged)

shit did those tires/handbrake get a work out
I live in a kind of 4 block area thats kinda 'built in' to a golf course... off the main road, i live basically in the middle, and on the outside roads it would be gutter on oneside and level grass on the other... most of the time i'd get lazy and not wanna turn the corner properly, so just handbrake-y in the grass till the car lined up with the road then drop the clutch at 6k and bunny hop up the road <3 <3<3

Front wheel drives still give a decent amount of pleasure

My housemate is fairly hopeless. VS2 Executive. Doesn't give a **** about it at all.

His back passenger footwells are his rubbish bins, there are cables running everywhere from him pulling shit off (after I had neatly stashed them behind dash and carpet and such when I was doing his audio/visual system), hasn't washed it in probably over a year, has worse fuel economy than a Ferrari we worked out one day, VT transmission in it is about to go fuckenbang due to his neverending N-bombs, skids, etc, we have drawn cocks and wrote stuff like "I AM A C*NT" on his back window and he doesn't give a ****, clearcoat is coming off in chunks, can't see the hubcap through the brake dust, the list goes on.

Kinda disappointing considering I have put so much work into it get his stereo in an sounding nice, and he just doesn't give a ****.

Oh well, his car.

My sister used to have an 86 (or about that age) magna that dad bought her off an old lady, it got driven to church and back, about 10ks a week, so it was IMMACULATE, still had the plastic covers on the heater/aircon display, had log-book servicing etc..
Anyway since it never used to get driven before we got it, it sat in the shed, one night at 3am its electrics began to **** up, and it wouldn't engage any gears (manual). My sister hates cars and this was her first, so at this point the license was only a few weeks old, and dad had to go get her.
Turned out rats had chewed thru the electrics and clutch lines, which had never really been a problem until the car was actually being used enough to make it leak fluid which stopped the clutch dis-engaging properly (hence problems selecting gears) but the fluid leaked onto the chewed and therefore exposed electrical wiring in the same area, making the electrics go ape shit!

If I didnt have Pete around to check my oil, coolant etc, my car would probly be pretty neglected. Altho now I have been doin it now :)

My mums explorer is pretty neglected, she probly couldnt even tell you the last time it got serviced. Probly when she bought it years ago! It got a recall a few weeks ago but they didnt have the parts to fix it so its still being driven around as normal and unfixed.

mate used to have a corolla panelvan that was the coolest little car minus the abuse he used to give it, he would drive it to tafe everyday and each day he'd do something worse in it,lol. He used to break dance on the roof on the odd occasion. Also we went for a drive down south rd one day and he decides at 80 odd k's he was gonna cut a u-turn over the center medium strip (up over the gutter onto the grass, into 2nd then nails it), i couldn't beleive it. i had to laugh, i was in the passenger seat and we had 2 other mates in the back of the PV. couldnt stop laughing. Did a drive up to the KFC near chaddy one time in it and instead of pull right into the service lane he pulls up onto the grass section in between the service lane and the main rd and starts handbreakin' it and droppin the clutch everywhere. pulls into KF and backs the thing into a tree, then after we had eaten our meals and thrown all the trays in the bins with the food, we left and he mowed down the KFC bins, also. He never ever serviced the car, the stereo was the worst i've ever seen in my time as an installer(i did end up doing a big install) just before he sold the thing.lol. i dont know of anyone that beat up there car more than that guy...good times.lol

Bin hunting absolutely rules!! I used to have a van with mega front and rear bullbars that always used to get a workout each week. Wheelie bins at 60km are awesome.

our old Hiace van at Qantas. 80,000ks, side door held on with cable ties, no oil pressure, Oil warning light always on (topped up with the guys used car oil), rooted gearbox, noisy as diff and bald as tyres. Was well known around Sydney Airport as the apprentice flog box, we used to cut skids and shit in it everywhere. We never bothered to contact fleet maintenance to service it as there was no point, plus it was fun to see if u could finally kill it.

Never seen a public road, just got thrashed around the Jetbase/Sydney Airport.

Seems falcons hang together without services better than Astras and commodores....we've done a couple of 2.2L astra engines and and some 3.8 and 3.6L commo motors due to people not servicing them - they only lasted <40,000km though.

I snapped this one last week just as a curiosity - under the rocker cover of a 30,000km old alloytech police car that had missed its 15,000km service:

I should get some pics of the actual motor, if you guys want to see?

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

I tried today but it had been pulled out of the car and boxed up. In theory it shouldn't be warranty so I'll have a dig around tomorrow and see if I can find it.

Basically, it looked like someone had put several kilos of slightly dried out vegimite in the motor - instead of nice shiny alloy and steel there was just brown tarry crap over everything.

I've got a nice '86 626 coming my way soon. Was free, so will paddock/bin/thick bush bash! Probably end up killing it and leaving it on some kent's land... or sell it for scraps. Thinking of a nice pov-spec mod job - cut exhaust off before cat + cheap intake piping through a hole in the body :) Maybe some speed holes in the bonnet ala simpsons? Quick question, if it does die in the ass, what steps can i take to remove any identifiable materials? Plates and rego sticker obviously, as well as popping off the vin/chassis plate, but anything else?

...Not that it's even registered in my name. Given to me by a workmate who's moving states to a job with a free car and hasn't had time to sell it...and i don't even know if it was ever registered in his name since he bought it two months ago - he got a parking ticket the other day and it had someone else's name on it?
