Car movies

Postby Commando » April 6th, 2008, 6:15 pm

I've been bored for most of the weekend marking assignments n shit... anyway I thought I'd kill an hour or two watching some DVDs. I went lucky dip stylez & pulled out Getaway In Stockholm (1 & 2), something I hadn't watched for ages. So it got me thinking (and I know this has been covered before on other forums), throw down some titles in here of ace (or crap) car movies.

Commando's thumbs up:
* Getaway In Stockholm 2
* Mad Max series
* Running On Empty
* Dirty Deeds (not so much a car movie, but I rate the whole movie, & the chase scene between the HG Brougham & the FB ute was pretty good)
* Fast 'n' Furious - OK, it's about ricers, but there's some top lines, top flange, & 11ty billion gearchanges. Bonus points go to the charger for wheelspinning AND lifting the fronts.
* Gone in 60 Seconds (new version) - looking forward to seeing the original. Negative points for most awkward semi-threesome-sex scene ever, starring Nick Cage, Angelina Jolie, and the shifter. Shifter wins, Nick has to put up with a dry root.
* Blues Brothers
* Dukes of Hazzard
* Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo :oops: (OK, it's Disney, but there's early 70s euro supercar porn in it... Bonus points for lead bad guy resembling Niko)
* Transformers (FLANGE! Oh... plus some hot Yankee iron. Not so much a cars movie)

Commando's thumbs undecided:
* Getaway In Stockholm 1
* Metal Skin (awesome car scenes, rest of the movie was shyte)
* Gone in 60 Seconds 2: The Junkman (sequel from about 1980... picture Anchorman cast minus the comedy, with some Blues Brothers-spec cars thrown in for the "action". Car chases are about as exciting as something from Inspector Gadget. Jailbait included but it's not that flash/TOO young)

Commando's thumbs down:
* The Chase Is On

I haven't watched that many car flicks though, notable titles missing from my ratings include Death Proof, Smokey & the Bandit, Bullitt, Gone In 60 Seconds (original)...

So, throw up your movie titles!

I would pick..
* Mad Max I and II
* Running On Empty
* Fast 'n' Furious - only the American muscle
* Gone in 60 Seconds original only (a must for any mustang fan)
* Bullitt (a must for any mustang fan)
* Christine
*Grindhouse - Deathproof (for the cars only, not the storey line)
*Smokie and the Bandit I & II (Trans am firebird, in black)
*Two Lane blacktop
*American Graffiti
*Midnite Spares

Thumbs down to
*Metal skin
* Gone in 60 (new version) Sucked balls! (Angelina might as well!!:))
*Days of Tunder (movie OK, but Tom Cruise sux)

Death proof is alright.. has prob a bit too much talking in stages but some awesome killing involving the use of cars and some reasonable driving scenes.. some good slow mo of tyres hitting and ripping faces etc. alot of emphasis placed on the women in the movie too which makes everything better :D

Everyone here sucks. What about 'In The Red'?! As a movie it's a bit B-grade, but it's quite a decent car fillum, and all of the car scenes are actually real. Plus any movie with Roman Autotek's arsenal of cars (Sequential EL XR8, Indy EA Vert), big burnout from the 'Roman Beast' VS ute, plus the "V8's, you young pricks just don't get it" line. Extra thumbs up for the movie ending in a lezzo shower.

Another one no-one has mentioned is Ronin, with Robert De-Niro. Supercharged, black Audi S8 sideways through French backstreets with a dude hanging out the sunroof with a rocket launcher FTW.

11ty billion thumbs down to 'The Chase Is On'. I want my $20 and 60 minutes back.
