Should get back 7-8k, straight into savings account. House deposit > car

I was thinking the same thing John LOL
You fckers must have good accountants!
Only time I ever got over 5k is when I didn't work for the whole year so I stayed under the threshold and got everything back LOL

if ya dont own anything other then a car. and according to the government ya live at home with no bills or anything. yet you have no money in ya account. what sorta tax % would ya get back?
and yes im above the bracket that gets all ya tax back.
i wouldent have a clue beacause dads accountant has allways done it all.
and even then untill this year iv been below the bracket so jus got it all back.

Probably people with part-time/casual jobs who earn under the threshold.
I've been casual for the last few years (while studying at uni) and get a decent tax return.
If you get a big tax return it probably just means you didn't earn all that much money over the last year (like me)

When you fill out the TFN Decleration form, tick no on the question that asks if you want to claim the tax free threshold.
Or if you work somewhere earning big dollars for part of the year, your employer will take out a lot more tax.
Check out
http://www.ato.gov.au for tax calculators.

But are these people saying they're getting 6-7k back, thinking thats the amount of tax that they can claim. Because the 6-7k or whatever it is these days is amount of gross income that you can claim your tax back on.
So if for instance you get taxed 10% on your wage, and because you're a slack **** that works at coles for like 2 hours a week, and doesnt go over the threshold, you will get back that 10% of tax that you paid. So that equals $600-$700, not 6-7k!
Anyone who is claiming 7k back, who isnt self employed, is probably rorting the system. Good stuff, just don't get caught though!

I understand what you're saying mate, but I received ~5k* last year legitimately. This year should be substantially higher than that, given I've earned about roughly double (~78k) what I did last year , and I've been substantially overtaxed by my employer.
And Fairmont888, yeah, it will likely end up being spent on the 528, the 5spd auto has a couple of issues... one of which is it doesn't fucking work. The rest will be going into the house deposit fund (if there's any left after fixing the beemer

)
*I got stung for not paying HECS due to an error by my employer, so only ended up being 3.5k. Fuckers.

Ease up on the brothers that work at Coles lol, I work there as a casual and I managed to get $1500 in my return.
I spent **** all of it on the car, changed oil and shit like that and put the rest away.
Same goes this year. **

nothing much i can really claim as work covers everything.
