Question about repairable write off.

Postby robert » May 14th, 2008, 4:09 pm

Bought my car in Vic, went to register today (I'm in NSW), and turns out the car was written off. The car looks straight as, and I couldn't tell that it's been repaired from a farking write off. Now I have to go back to the inspection place and get them to look it over. Question, the RTA site says that you need proof of repair, such as receipts, etc. Now... I don't have them!

The person who sold the car has been hiding secrets from me. First thing I found out that it was an auto, and has been converted, and now this. I was never told of it being written off, thus haven't been given any receipts/proof of repair.

What the hell do I do?

Cheers.

If the inspection shows up no hidden nasties I'd say you should be OK. If you aren't just write some letters and see where you get.

Yes it was (and still is) registered in Victoria. REVS check states :

There are no encumbrances that match the quoted identifiers.
** STATE HAS NO RTA ACCESS **
RTA check is not available for the state entered.

There isn't any money owing, and it isn't reported stolen. But the girl at the RTA says it has come up as a write off (assume it's repairable, because it's been repaired and registered in VIC)

Hmmm if it's a registered vehicle I don't see the problem, there just must be some kind of mistake. FOr a car to be written off and re-registered, the inspection you've been asked to do would already have been completed.

I bet RTA or VicRoads fukked up somewhere.

all i would do is get a copy of the registration details from vicroads to prove that it has gone through the testing here to be registered and then you shouldnt have a problem.

Can't find the actual rego papers, but it IS registered in Victoria. It still has the label on it (expires August), matching VIN/Engine numbers, etc.

Yeah, bit pissed off about it. Could've told me this... but I suppose you wouldn't want to buy a car that's been a write off.

Just out of curiosity, how can I do a check to see if it's a genuine XR, or are there any notable ways to tell it is by looking at it? I'll be kicking shit if it's a fake write off, manual converted stocker.

Had to log into AFF for the first time in farking forever to check the code out, and I don't even get what ones to look at.

Plate Number : TSG534
Vehicle Make : FORD
Vehicle Body Type : SED
Year of Manufacture : 1998
Colour 1 / Colour 2 : BLUE
Transmission : MANUAL
VIN/Chassis Number : 6FPAAAJGSWWM55821
Engine Number : JGSWTY75453

The Trans says Manual, yet the VIN code says it's an Auto (which it was), what the hell?

Also, doesn't tell me how I know if it's an XR.
