I guess your mate was rolling the dice being passenger in a canary yellow (VL ?) with stockies on the back doing twice the speed limit. These sorts of incidents is what gives all P Plate drivers a bad name.

RIP to the driver, and hopefully your mate pulls through. What a waste. :(

sorry to hear about your mate, but the driver must have been an idiot, populated street, excessive speed well above speed limit, doesnt take a genius to figure out what could happen obviously the driver didnt think about it and its now cost people

I'm gonna go ahead and call the driver a fuckhead.

I've speed before (never abouve 60 in town), we've all driven like "hoons", there is a time and a place for everything. Surely he could of picked a major highway to go x2 the speed limit and it would of reduced the chances of him killing himself and a mate dramatically.

This is why you should only excessively speed when nobody is in your car, you know the limits of your own car, you know the road has no traffic what so ever and you know their is no chance for pedestrians. E.g A backroad that is used often during the day but never during the night.

My mate was the 20 year passenger. Still not sure who the other passenger is or who the driver was. Couple of us are meeting up soon to see his family then we will probably head down to the site of crash. .......

I grew up with this guy from primary all the way through highschool. I suppose he just got caught up in that crowd who make immature decisons when behind the wheel. Its the "fully Hecktic" attitude that im talking about.....in my area i cant even go to shops without a holden flying past me?.....then i relise i know that guy? Enough is enough with this attitude..... it kills people.

+1 to that, this is when the car crushing would be good, But then it still isnt fair to everybody else

There isn't really any realistic way to deal with this, unless they ban all engine modifications and 6 cylinder engines for P platers

It would of reduced the chance of the crash if he did do it on the westgate (Since im a south aussie I wouldnt know the limit on it...100?) but driving over the speedlimit by x2 in a city like Melbourne, Sydney or Adelaide is still just stuiped, even more so when you are driving a stock base model VR-VS commodore with burnout spec tyres on the rear.

4 or 5 guys in a VS on the Westgate FWY (about 2kms west of the bridge itself) stacked & perished when going over a bumpy section of the road at 160ish (looks flat until you hit it). It's either an 80 zone or a 100 zone there. Was fair fked up, I passed it heading the other way not too long after it had happened.

But yeah, ultimately it was an avoidable tragedy (well, both cases were).

see the problem is not high performance cars but low performance drivers and poor driver education
same as guns...guns dont kill ppl, ppl kill ppl

but no doubt theres going to be yet another hoon law an previous road laws tightened
an while we're at it...where was parental control?? after all isnt it the parents job to teach they're kids about COMMON SENSE and LOGIC???
WTF was an 18yo doing owning a VL T, u might aswell of givin him a loaded cocked 12guage an sed "merry christmas son, u go have fun now ok"
instead of coming up with new laws for drivers y not come up with laws for parents...

driver was my mate. Its sad to see something like this happen to anyone, let alone people as young as these boys. 18 and 20 years old. I think that this should be a message to us all. most of us thought we were invincible when we were 18 and this just goes to show thats just not the case.
i just hope that this tragedy will open up the eyes of any other young drivers out there, and hopefully make them think twice before putting there foot down.

a parent can teach their kid as much as they want when theyre on there l's but when ur 18 u just dont care anymore and then fresh p-plater in there vl-vs commo trying to show off down a busy city road of course shits gonna happen.
a parent cant control there kids for there whole life is wat im trying to say.

my mistake on the car, from that 1 shot looks alot like a VL....
the parents r partly to blame....altho theyve problem done the best they can at raising him and it comes down to the child own independent decision at the time, i still cant help but feel that in this day an age parents take no responablity on theyre own child at TV dus most of the education an looking after....
for eg. the TAC add with the lil kid that runs out in the school zone after his ball....an the car stops an wen the kid stands up he jus grease's the driver off....like its the cars fault for being on the road...
no mention of teaching the kids road saftey an common sense an logic, theyre barley onli jus bought bak the "Look Left Look Right" shit
an if the kid gets his, its all on the driver....
we're sposd to slow down, jus coz we have alot of dopey kids an irrisponsable parents on the planet??

but now the worst thing is, these stupid lil morons who chase thier ball out onto the road
are these same kids who grow up an buy cars an still have that same mentality...

So your parents should get in trouble for your lack of spelling/grammar ability?

Blaming the parents of an 18yo is a cop-out. 18 = adult, he is legally old enough to make his own decisions, and it's not like he would not know nothing about the risks involved in driving a car at over double the speed limit in a busy city street. It's not quite the same as a 4 year old running out on the road after a ball.

Yeah it sucks 2 people died, I'm certainly not denying that. The driver would probably want to be dead anyway after killing his mate and seriously injuring another. Living with that on your mind every day for the rest of your life wouldn't be easy if you have a conscience at all.

If this particular crash gets flogged on the news over the weekend, I could certainly see the Victorian Govt. look at bringing in restrctions regarding P-Platers carrying passengers at any time of day.

I think the Victorian Govt would do something a bit more heavy-handed like that... such as restricting P-platers from driving AT ALL until they're off their P's. Problem solved, no more P-platers crashing.

I kinda get where dandy nights is coming from. In my day you were taught to watch for cars before crossing the road and noone I knew ever got hit by a car. Now they have 40km/hr zones so the onus is now on the drivers rather than the kids.

That being said its not the parents fault this kid crashed his commodore. I drove like a dickhead and had heaps of near misses when I was younger and I was brought up well imo.

Can't believe you could even mistake that car for a VL.

The seats, the bonnet shaping and the alternator position all give it away pretty easily.

Looks like a bare metal respray, there's a massive chunk of paint missing off the top of the roof that's gone down to bare metal. Looks like the body moulding indents on the door have been filled as well. Someone's obviously put a lot of time and effort in to the car.

Oh yeah I totally agree with that part. There's an ad here now where some chick is playing with her ipod, walks onto the road without looking, gets snotted by an EL, and the usual 'he was doing 65' spiel follows. Nothing about looking before you walk onto a main arterial road. I just couldn't make the connection between a 4 year old chasing a ball onto the road to an 18yo driving at double the speed limit on a city street.

I remember there being ads on TV when I was a kid to 'look left, look right and look left again' and always hold a parents hand when crossing the road.

Could the car be an ex-taxi? I guess it shows you still die and having a nice car doesn't make you a good driver.

We all met up last night ...... My mates younger brother spoke to us briefley, saying "he is dead". Didnt even see the family. The guy in hospital cant move atm, he may be paralyzed but they dont know for sure. Cant do much more, but wait for this guys story. Hopefully the message gets out to our community about "hooning" as its shaken alot of people up, despite the local newspaper having an article about hooning in our area every week.

wasnt a 4yo chasin the ball, was like a 10yo with a backpack on....
an id onli seen 1 photo on the car wen i se it was a VL, i was jus look at the chrome trim on the 1/4 window

im suprised they havnt tried to enforce a 10-11pm curfue for P-plates
NSW i think have 90 an 100 P-Plate restrictions
aswell as pass. restrictions
an im not sayin completly blame the parents
but wen u havnt taught ur kid the basics in commonsense u have to take sum sort of responability...an like i sed b4 at the end of the day it is entirley the kids decision on how far the foot goes down
obviously the parents didnt enstil that much commonsense in the dumass.

Hope ya mate pulls through dude.

On another note, this on going myth about high performance cars and low performance drivers is starting to become bullshit, you don't drive twice the speed limit in a street like that.

End of story.

I deeply apologise for my mistake in assuming the ad was of a 4 year old, when the child is 6 years older. But I still can't see the connection between a 10yo with a backpack on with an adult driving over twice the speed limit. You're suggesting 2 years of jail for the parents, but the blame should not be completely on the parents? The driver wouldn't have got 2 years jail if he was still alive, so I'm not sure how that works.

Common sense can often go out the door when behind the wheel. To a degree I bet everyone on here is guilty of it, I know I have been in the past. The only way I can see of avoiding this is to take their cars away, which I think is an absolute joke in itself.

the high performance thing is bullshit, the only thing that changes is the time you get to that speed. 4s can get to 110 plus just as good as a 6 or an 8, just the time it takes to get there varies.

there is no connection between a 10yo with a backpack and an 18yo behind the wheel....
i never sed there was a connection.
i usd it as an example on how parents don't teach kids anymore.
an the 2yrs jail for raising a Neanderthals in a civilized society was sarcasm....

for eg. the TAC add with the lil kid that runs out in the school zone after his ball....an the car stops an wen the kid stands up he jus grease's the driver off....like its the cars fault for being on the road...

...

but now the worst thing is, these stupid lil morons who chase thier ball out onto the road
are these same kids who grow up an buy cars an still have that same mentality...

sorry to hear about your mate SVT8. I go down that street a lot to go to uni and i cant think for the life of me why the driver would think its a good idea to speed there, its always busy cars and people every were not a good idea. When your 18 you think you are indispensable no matter what your doing be it driving or any thing else i guess when that mentality ends this shit will.
