victoria green plates (stupid)

Postby holmsy » June 10th, 2008, 5:55 pm

i havent seen a thread about this yet.

i have just received a set of green p plates in the mail
and a note telling me that from july 1st i have to display green plates
anyone that received their license before 1july 2008 uses green plates and anyone after 1july 2008 will use red plates.

green being the less restrictive ones.

anyone else thing this is a waste of time and money. why not make the new people use green plates so everyone doesnt have to go out and get new ones.

damn the green looks gay to :P

yer I just got mine in the mail to I freaked thinking (logically) that the new P platers would have the green and all the previous ones would simply keep the red. But after a little read it seems all the previous P platers get the green and the new ones the red. I think it is very stupid but after my morning spent at vic roads for another reason nothing at all surprises me.

Got mine in the mail today aswell...had me worried for a second thinking id be stuck with the stupid passenger restrictions etc, but instead we just get green P plates.
Hopefully now the coppas will focus more on the red platers and leave the greens alone....random breath tests and RW inspections ftl

lol that'll defo be handy Holmsy.
Damn, the green looks terrible against the cardinal red body :s
They shall plant vineyards and drink the wine of them. And they shall build their lay cities and live in them
And they shall also make gardens and eat the fruit of them. And I will plant them upon their land, which I have given them
And the mountains shall drop sweet wine and the hills shall melt.

no performance mods no.
it says all that on the site.

HIGH POWERED VEHICLES
If you are a probationary driver and obtained your licence after 1 July 2007, you can't drive a vehicle with:

* An engine of eight or more cylinders
* A turbocharged or supercharged engine
* Certain high performance six cylinder engines
* An engine that has been modified to increase the vehicle's performance.

If they get caught driving any of these vehicles, they’ll have to pay a fine and you’ll receive three demerit points.

Vehicles excluded from these restrictions...

* Turbocharged or supercharged diesel powered cars (without engine performance modifications)
* Nominated vehicles with low powered turbocharged or supercharged engines, including Suzuki Cappucino 2D Cabriolet Turbo 3 cylinder 689cc, Daihatsu Copen L880 2D Convertible 4 cylinder 659cc
* All models of the Smart car, produced by Mercedes Benz.
* Vehicles driven as a part of the driver’s employment and at the request of the employer.

So a Smart car is safer than a Volvo turbo? These rules are complete bullshit. They don't affect me, as I'm fully licensed, but they are just stupid. How many P-platers have wrapped stock standard VN Commodore V6's around trees? Plenty. Banning P-platers from V8's etc. will do bugger all.

yep this sucks, as everyone has mentioned above, the logical thing would be keep it as it is and the new 'restricted' P's get the green plate.

sucks even more for me, i'll be on my green P's till i;m 25 :(

Yeh i got my green p's today, they look fukn gay as.
and what dus it mean specifically with-
* An engine of eight or more cylinders
* A turbocharged or supercharged engine
* Certain high performance six cylinder engines
* An engine that has been modified to increase the vehicle's performance
so something basic like a sports exhaust cant be on a car?

True. P-plates are a useful identification tool.

Lancer + P-plates + blonde chick driving = slut
Commodore/Statesman + P-plates = will race me at the lights

I like not having P-plates though. You don't look like a young immature driver. Just a slightly older dickhead :P

not sure, some gay rule they came up with because they arent visible enough or cant be identified as quickly or some shit. My car looked so much better when they were in the windows :(

shane-ed wrote:so something basic like a sports exhaust cant be on a car?

Technically, yes. Even a pod in a box could be deemed a performance enhancement if the cop doesnt like you. I was going to just lower mine and put on extractors with std exhaust, but that idea got fkd off pretty quick. I've got extractors + 'hi-flo' cat with a 1 muffler lukey, and even though i'm not meant to have any mods cops dont give a fk. just dont drive like a dikhead when theyre around (eg slip in clutch and coast by), and they wont look twice.
Also helps when you dont have 18" rims/chromies.

it still does matter to anyone that has got them in the last year.
they still have the restrictions on what cars they can drive.

if you got it before july 07 then no it doesnt make a difference ya jus have to put up different plates

SIK! i can still drive the boss's BF XR6T!

havent got my green ones yet :(

Nah afriad not kester, Unless you apply for an exemption.

My mate just bought a new VE SS ute he's 19 but because he's a subie (self-employed) its actually a business car.

He has applied for an exemption from vicroads so after they grant it he's all good to go.

I wonder how easy it will be to try and get an exemption.... kind like the 2am lockout in melb, with the 150 pubs granted exemptions when asked for them... just more money for our ever loving government.

Just get your boss the write you a letter saying you need to drive a boosted car.

And the previous comment about sluts in Lancer's no longer applies in Geelong, it's mainly fat birds that drive them.
Ho's drive 5.0 Statesman's now.

What a load of crap! My brother will be going onto his Ps as a red P plater and i have had my license for over a year now and i have to change to green!! What dummys are running this place. Wouldnt it be a hell of alot easier to get the newbs on green Ps??
Plus the fact that green clashes terribly with pink :P :(
