Different type of thread...who here is a SMRT?

Postby serial_fool » June 12th, 2008, 9:26 pm

G'day fellas,

Sorry to introduce my petty homework troubles onto boostedeseries but Im really stuck on a few Physics questions in relation to refraction.

"1. The lens of a camera has a focal length of 10 CM. How far must the lens be from the film so as to get a clear image of an object at;

A) Infinity

B) 20 CM

C) 100 CM

2. A small light at the bottom of a pool of water (of refractive index 1.33) 1 Meter deep, emits light rays upwards in all directions. At the top of the water a circle of light appears when viewed from above. Around this circle the rays reflect back into the water.

A) Draw a diagram to illustrate the situation.

B) Explain carefully why this circle has formed.

C) Calculate the diameter of the circle of light

3. XYZ is a triangular glass prism (n=1.5). Angle X is 30*, angle Z is 60* and angle Y is 90*. A ray of light strikes the center of side XY at 90*. Determine the path of the ray through the prism.

I would just like to see peoples thoughts on the questions and compare them with my eventual....answers.

Thanks." - Shameless copy and past from gtaforums and fordforums.

If anyone has any tips/hints/answers please shoot something my way.

SMRT, I mean SMART!
They shall plant vineyards and drink the wine of them. And they shall build their lay cities and live in them
And they shall also make gardens and eat the fruit of them. And I will plant them upon their land, which I have given them
And the mountains shall drop sweet wine and the hills shall melt.

mate ive forgotten everything from first year physics so cant really help you other than to suggest you google "physics focal length" and similiar, when i was doing physics i found some really well set out websites with diagrams and moving files that explained things better than the lecturers did....then again pass mark was 50..and i got 50 lol so it couldnt have been that great at teaching me :?
