Getting me started: Doing up my EL Fairmont

Postby elfairmontshane » June 26th, 2008, 3:17 pm

Hi,

First post been reading for a while,

I have a EL Monty, Burgendy.
Good Cond 190000 kms, runs smoothly, really nice looking car.
already has a dark tint and is ready for some mods.
I have had it for a year now.

Im not a Mechanic whiz but i want to have a go at doing it all myself.
just the basic mods, dont wanna go over the top with spending.

Im after some BA Wheels
if someone can point me in the direction of 2nd hand shocks or a sweet deal would be appreciated
same with extractors/exhaust system.

later on i might do some engine mods..

as i said i dont want to go over the top, i just want a super nice looking monty.

Im located in Melbourne.

Cheers Guys

Welcome. Got a good base to start with, not biased or anything though :P

Just lower it (SL or SSL) if you cant find rims you like, maybe EL Ghia wheels polished up could do the trick.

Have a look throw the Showroom and Workshop for ideas :)

Havent spent that much on it, just small mods adding up to make the package. Lowering and exhaust are 2 main things id look at doing first for sure!

im going to get wheels first,
then lower how ever much i need too.
some place in north melbourne suspension city quoted 250 for front and rear coils and a komac kit for 280.
not sure if thats ezactly what i want, ill have to read into it a bit more see whats out there.

then go for exhaust.

good times.

Ahh Regency! Not bad :) Grab some NF/NL clear repeaters, lose the bonnet protector and mudflaps and thats a pretty good start.

NF/NL Clear repeaters, you have any pics or example of what these would look like in comparison to mine.

Heres a pic showing them, they go for around $60 at Ford I think, could find them cheaper second hand or on ebay if your lucky.

No. You either get copys in the right offset - Pre AU (ebay) or buy hub adaptors (illegal).
Lower it before you get rims too - 4wd cars with rims look pox.

But if you lower it first and decide you want 19 in rims, you wont know ezactly how low it will be until you got the rims...

atleast if you get the rims first you know how much to lower it...

complete noob post.

took all the nerdy shit of the mont today,
mudflaps, bonnet protectors and the window rain protector things.
took the fairmont letters off the rear of it. Over all it looks better already.

probs gonna get some clear indicator lights and a few other things tommorow.

Probs gonna get a quote for a exhaust and SL's.

Fun Times.

Colour code the grille and side mouldings. If you have lots of money, front and rear chrome strips would set it off nicely.

Rim's don't change the ride height, just how it looks. Generally smaller wheels make lowered cars look lower. Make sure you get new shocks when you lower it, otherwise you'll be replacing them in 3 months anyway.

I must say, genuine EL GT's look mint on Regency Red EL Fairmonts. Walkinshaw spec ;)

    Hi,

Does anyone have any idea on how to freshen up the "chrome" insets on the side mouldings?

I have a Ghia in the same colour, they look awesome.

    califrnia custom purple polish.
try any sort of auto part retailer.

it's the bomb in all chrome stuff. i use it on my zorts tip and woodgrain and boot spear, does wonders.

dad uses it on the harley and again, works awesome.

doesn't remove and blemishes or scratches etc, but the shine on it is amazing.

For the side moulds, I used chrome edging from Autobarn and im pretty sure Sunny did the same thing with his old Ghia. For the bumper inserts he used chrome tape/pinstriping.
