Hey Guys,
(Fk Ima get flamed)
I want to change the cam and valve springs in my EA this weekend or next and don't have the tools (spring compressor) / experience to do the valve springs.
Just wondering if one or two people who know how to do it want to come over and give us a hand doing it either this Sunday or the one after? I can't have a full blown mod day, maybe like 1 or 2 people who know how to do it well come over and I'll throw a BBQ and all that junk.
Let us know!

i know how to do it but i have no tools like spring compressors.. john had all that stuff.. u also need an air compressor with a special fitting to put in the sparkplug holes to hold the valves alternatively john had some rope method if you dont have a compressor but i have no idea how he did that.

Rope method works well. You need a strong magnet to remove the collets (just makes life easy).

I think Doug has the spring compressors and I have an air compressor - I can buy the other tool if need be.
Help me Max !

You can get fittings of the same thread type as a spark plug which has an inner that suits an airhose...buy them from repco or some shit.. i dont think it would be too expensive i did it at a mates and he had all that. I can help but this weekend im going to falls creek. If you cant get anyone this weekend, i can give a hand weekend after.

Sunny I have all those tools that you need - spring compressor, collet tool and air compressor tool thingy.
I've only ever changed the springs with the head not in the car though.

Happy to lend you the tools though.

we have the tool to take out the springs, we just used the air compressor to pressure the cylinder tube, so the valve dosent drop, zervos use to just bring the piston all the way to the top and if the valve dropped, it didn't go into the head
more then happy to lend a hand or just take all the food, one or the other

yeah its easy to do, just remove all spark plugs, it will make turning the engine easier. rope method works good and you definetly wont lose a valve in the cylinder.

id lend a hand but you know....

I asked for lend of hand from "mates". If I wanted to pay someone I'd either buy the tool and follow the bodgily written Ford book or take it to Dynomotive.
Max I'll let you know how I go! I'll try get Doug down and see if I can rope Dan in too. BBQ FTW

Made some progress today after spending yesterday fixing Gill's car and doing some maintenance on the EL.
Gill came round and ripped out the turbo manifold while I ripped all the cam related stuff out, so it's ready to have the valve springs changed. Max, if you are able to help let me know man, I want to get it done next Saturday morning ish if you're free. Let me know! I want to do the diff and shifter next Sunday once it's mobile again.
On the list is as followed:
-Crow double valve springs
-Either a DEV4 cam or custom grind turbo cam
-New turbo and exhaust gaskets
-New diff and rear brakes (3.73:1, may possibly be changing the internals from EF case to EA)
-Billet Quick-Shifter
-14-15PSI

Then after this is just the cosmetics and finishing the stereo gear, along with spraying the front bar and stuff. I have purchased a ED XR front lip as well.
Yay for the EA being ready for Summer two-thousand-and-never.

good work man, i'm pretty sure I have a weekend off coming up finally, so will probably come give ya a hand if ya want. Should go nuts with the 3.7's and cam.

That's cool Pat I know you're busy and sht bro.
Yeah Damo I'm hoping the valve springs will help it rev out easier and smoother, like Gill's car does. The standard cam is way too restrictive and the standard springs probably float with the boost, and aren't doing a great job when it comes to smooth revving.
3.73's will help decrease the load a tad hence a need for further boost

Dont get the DEV4, get a custom grind! Speak with Surecam, that guy REALLY knows his shit. With all the cars you part out, surely you can afford the $230 he asks for a custom grind

I've got 2 cams! Got the custom one from Dan and the DEV4. If the DEV4 doesn't float my boat I'll go with Dan's. Dan's one will prob require me to get a retune though.

Jared, Max, Joe, Rips, Dan and Gill all put in a mammoth effort today and got the valve springs done and dusted! Was a top effort from Max and Jared who pretty much did the valve springs themselves after I got stubborn and with my fuked up turbo manifold and fixing it's studs. Spent the better part of the day getting a broken stud out and a hole retapped for it. In the end it's worked out pretty damn good. The manifold is now refurb'd and bolted back in and the valve springs await the DEV4 cam.
Big thanks to the boys for their help!!

No worries man it was easier to do on your car then mine for some reason.. maybe experience hahaha.. or it could be the air tool!!!.. remember no air tools and wear safety goggles any time you do a valve spring change
