hahaha.
to me it sounds as tho the wrong wires are wired to the wrong conections, or maby the float has been installed upside down, if thats possible

Dont know , but i have heard of the wires might be loose or something like that , and yeah turning my head upside down wont work i dont think .. i went to the ford dealership here to see if they would loosen the plastic thing around the fuel tank and they told me it would cost 70$ to take it off and have a look then put it back on..

Just check the connection to the fuel level sender in the tank first, it's the smaller of the two plugs going into the tank. Take it off and have a look at the pins and wires. Maybe give it a clean somehow.

Mine read nothing for a few days after I replaced the fuel pump but before I got around to looking for a cause it came good and has been fine ever since.

$70? What a ripoff!

A special 3-pronged finger-clamp thingy is needed to undo the plastic cap on top of the fuel tank (well, it makes life easier). The pump & float need to be kept in one particular position, a bit difficult to explain really but when you do up the plastic cap again the pump & float may want to rotate with the cap, & if that happens your pickup reading to your gauge will be wrong (it may read 1/4 full & you run out of fuel).

viewtopic.php?f=35&t=3517 <-- here's 89AIT's tutorial for replacing the std fuel pump with a beefier one. But for you it would be useful for how to get to the pump & check over it all :)

I can almost guarantee it will be the sender unit. Take that out and check the arm on the float hasnt been bent or damaged. Mine did the exact same thing.

yeah it will be the sender for sure. they probably damaged it or bent it when they were replacing the pump. It wouldn't be the wires cause the plug only goes in one way.

Ill get off my ass today and check the wires and yeah ill try and get one of those 3 arm things and undo the plastic ring and have a look at the float , go and buy a new float.

If its bent it wont JUST be the float. The sender unit has a wire arm attached to it. On the end of that arm will be a black foam looking device. Just have a look, it could just be the arm not connecting to the reader properly
