Compulsory Immobiliser's

I just got back from Bunbury ( Western Australia ) and while i was over thier i was told of a law they have over their which its compulsory to have a immobiliser in your car no matter what age the car is and all for security reasons..

Just wondering what ya's think about this if they want to bring it into all states here in australia ??

It has to be some bullshit scheme the insurance companies have going so they dont have to cough up the insurance. Imagine how many ppl would b pissed off if their car got nicked and had no immobiliser.

Acutally if you read http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au its to help reduce car theft.

So insted of stealing the car they just steal everything in it. Happened to my Brothers cars a few times.

hahah make a joke anyways lol , And yeah i suppose it would make the insurance company happy.. I wonder what would happen with the insurance company if u got everything in ya car knocked off would they pay for the whole sterio shit and all ?

Depends on your policy. Mine only covers me for $500 worth of personal items, enough to cover a phone, or cd player. Physical money is never gunna get insurance.

But i have extra insurance on my laptop if someone walked away with 4g of laptop and i only got $500 id be shattered.

I was thinking about immobilisers the other day and came to this thought, what if i simply had a kill switch on one wire coming from the ignition (not sure which one but id look it up in the workshop manual, maybe all on a multiple switch) which was hidden and when in the off position it wouldnt matter even if you had my keys you still couldnt start my car, then with a flick of the switch the circuit is complete and the car starts normally.

Anyone else ever thought of this, or tried this, or know any fatal flaws in this idea?

Yeah can be done, I wouldn't count on the Insurance company paying it as a real immobiliser though.

well its more of an insurance policy to myself. The car only cost $2500 and they wanted that again for comprehensive so ive opted to go with third party until im older and have a more expensive car.

Ill have a look at my workshop manual and see what the circuit looks like.

mite take a week or so to get around to it, but ill try to let you guys know how i go.

ummm extremely simple mate.
put a switch in wire to fuel pump, between smart lock and ecu, in the final wire on the ignition barrel (just measure which point gets power when you turn the key to start.)
any of them and many more spots will work.

hell my xr has fucked up smart lock. takes a certain hit to make it work. its actually a pretty precise hit as well. not jus bashing.

good immobolisers stop fuel, spark, ignition etc.

why not just hook up a bluetooth tag that picks up that you have your phone and it swiches everything for you and allows you to start ya car

better yet, get decent insurance so when you park your car for 7 hrs at a train station while your getting smashed in the city you dont have to worry because the car and everything done to it is coverd. i reken insurance beats alamrs/immobilisers any day.

Yes but alarms and immobilsers make for cheaper insurance.


And Excess is a killer

yer insurance beats alarms only when it is actually worth insureing a car, if i paid 2 years of comp it would cost around $5000, the car only cost $2500

so i would actually be better off having my car stolen and buying another one, because atleast that way there is no excess and no cliam against my name making insurance go up even more

third party is the way for now.

for starters get agreed value, not market

market value is waste of time

my eb's and ed's have all been insured for the maximum agreed value (around $8800)

thats not what i paid for the car its what i believe its worth.

full comp for agreed value was only 2200 for me and i have lost my license 3 times... but your only p plates yeah?

Lol I insured my XR for market value I got 8500 compared to the 3400 I paid for it

after excess and rest of premium i got $5500 for it and only paid $1200 for it hahaha

the car was a 91 eb ghia 5 litre, had 420 kms on it thats why i got it cheap haha

not that i wanted it stolen, had to walk to cop shop then walk home (all up like 11 kms)

but in the end worked out good for me,
