I came across this when researching the difference between AU and EL suspension.

Ford R5 http://www.trueblueford.com/FalconR5ute2.html

It has BA style interior. It was released as concept in 2000.

whoa, thats scaringly similar to a BA's dash, very obvious were they got alot of the layout and design for the BA from.

Those vents are similar to S15's though, im glad they went with square/rectangular ones for BA's though, those round ones dont look very good IMO. Be good for gauges though ;)

That's the thing about concepts. Ford would have used it to gauge opinion on the design. They also used BA style beams for the headlights.

Obviously this is a new-age concept from after the AU days

lol. They had to get as far from the AU as they could, and the R5 concept was a good pointer to the direction they wanted to take.

Holden did something similar in a way when they brought out their original Cross8 concept. It came out during the VX days but the whole front end was nearly identical to the VY. Their Torana concept was a good pointer towards the VE as well.

Its like a AU/BA hybrid!

the arse end looks like a BA ute, and the front looks like an AU with a few BA pieces!

the R5 was meant to be a lead up to territory, which is obvious when you look at it now :P

Yeah there was this (R5) then the R7, both used to gauge recepion on the territory...and introduce new design features

Did anyone ever notice the paint job on Lowndes' 00 Green Eyed Monster AU? The headlights had black around them to mimick the BA XR design, in 2000. Ooohh spooky! FPV did the same with their BF V8SC paintjobs last year, notice the paint around the headlights is shaped to look like FG XR headlights.

Or compare XP front ends to XR, XY to XA, XC to XD, XF to EA, OMG they all look similar!!! Conspiracy theory for sure. Ford learnt not to change shit too much with the AU.

PS: anyone who bought an AU should be constantly reminded how much they suck, especially if it's a series 1 :D

Yeah! I thought that's what it was the second I saw it! Then confirmed when every Falcon had it too. Sneaky sneaky.

Yep. As soon as I saw that, I knew. That was still one of the best looking V8 Supercars of all time, despite being an AU!

XF front end looks like a EA? Are you on crack?

Its too bad Lowndes' "Green Eyed Monster" was a complete POS when it came to speed/ winning races.

I think pretty much all the Falcons have faint similarities to past models. I will double check tonight, but I have a book at home about the history of Ford Aus that has a diagram in it where it shows traces of XY in the AU design. I mean, they had to get it from somewhere right?

Its all in the Falcon badges from XY to AU.

I think all Falcons have a link to the older model, only the EL-AU change baring bugger all the same.

XF-EA headlights are sort of similar, probably highlighted by the XG ute.
